Ronnie Dunn left the stage during Brooks & Dunn’s encore at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on April 3, 2025. A representative for the duo said he was sick and not feeling well. No diagnosis or further medical detail has been given publicly, and the band’s next show, the following Saturday, went on as planned.

What happened on April 3, 2025

Brooks & Dunn were playing Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Thursday, April 3, 2025. During the encore they performed “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” Radio host Matt Malone filmed the moment and posted it on TikTok, and the Los Angeles Times based its account on that footage.

In the clip as the Times described it, Dunn encouraged the crowd to sing along, glanced toward the bassist, and signaled that he was finished. He walked to the edge of the stage, acknowledged the audience, and exited while the song was still part of the show.

The explanation given by the band’s representative

A Brooks & Dunn representative told USA Today on April 7, 2025, that Dunn “wasn’t feeling well from being sick.” The Los Angeles Times reported that statement. Us Weekly and American Songwriter separately reported the same explanation and the detail that the next show, on Saturday, went ahead as scheduled.

Three points about that statement matter for accuracy:

  • Who said it: a representative for the duo, not Dunn himself. The reporting does not name the representative or give a title beyond representing the band.
  • What it covers: Dunn was sick and not feeling well. Reports do not specify an illness, a diagnosis, a treatment, or whether he was seen by a doctor.
  • What it does not cover: no reporting establishes an emergency, a injury, or a reason beyond the one given. Explanations of why the set was cut short that go beyond the representative’s words are speculation.

What the video does and does not show

The footage shows a deliberate exit rather than a collapse or an abrupt stop. Dunn’s gestures toward the audience and the bassist suggest he was leaving the stage on purpose, and the account from the representative is consistent with that. The clip alone cannot tell viewers how Dunn felt, how long he had been unwell, or whether the encore was shortened beyond his exit. Audience reaction in the video is not evidence of a medical cause.

What is still unknown

  • The specific illness or symptoms.
  • Whether the band or Dunn has issued any statement of their own beyond the representative’s comments.
  • Any update on Dunn’s health in the months since April 2025, which was not part of the reporting reviewed for this article.

Readers looking for the most current status should check the band’s official channels and the outlets listed above, since those are where any later confirmation would appear.

Bottom line on the question

Ronnie Dunn walked off during the encore at the April 3, 2025 Indianapolis show because, according to a Brooks & Dunn representative, he was sick and not feeling well. That is the established explanation. The illness itself has not been described publicly, and the next scheduled show went on as planned.
