Blue Lock season 2 had a high-stakes soccer story built around Blue Lock taking on Japan’s U-20 team, but contemporary coverage reported that the animation often failed to match the premise’s energy. The criticism focused on inconsistent visuals and low-quality CGI; a more traditionally animated closing sequence drew praise, but that late improvement did not undo complaints about the season as a whole.
What is Blue Lock season 2 about?
The 14-episode season adapts the manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura. Its central event is the match between Blue Lock and Japan’s U-20 team, which runs across the season. Crunchyroll announced the Japanese premiere for October 5, 2024, at 23:30 JST. The season announcement named Yuji Haibara as chief director and Shintaro Inokawa as director. Crunchyroll’s June 2024 premiere announcement and its August 2024 season announcement provided those details.

Why did viewers criticize the animation?
The main complaint reported during the season was that the visuals could feel static or inconsistent during a story that depends on speed, physical movement and dramatic soccer action. A November 11, 2024, Meristation report described disappointment with the visual quality and said criticism of the animation was widespread, while also noting that some scenes met expectations.
The same report recounted viewers comparing the presentation to a “PowerPoint.” That phrase captures a fan reaction, not a technical finding or a verdict shared by every viewer. The available coverage establishes that the criticism was prominent; it does not provide a measured audience consensus or an objective season-wide animation score.

The mismatch is especially noticeable in a sports series whose appeal relies on legible, forceful action. When movement and staging lack impact, a decisive play can lose some of its urgency even if the underlying match remains compelling. That is an editorial interpretation of the reported criticism, not a formal comparison or measurement.
Did the finale improve?
Yes, according to a December 30, 2024, Meristation report about the finale. It said the closing sequence surprised fans by moving away from CGI in favor of traditional animation, offering a visual lift after complaints about low-quality CGI earlier in the season.

That report concerns a particular late sequence. It supports saying the finale had a praised visual moment, not that the production approach or animation quality improved consistently across all 14 episodes.
Is season 2 worth watching, or should you read the manga?
If the U-20 match and the characters’ story matter most to you, the season still delivers the event it was announced to adapt. If fluid match animation is your priority, the reported inconsistency is a fair reason to temper expectations. The available reporting does not establish a definitive anime-versus-manga verdict or a formal comparison with season 1.

A useful way to judge the adaptation is to consider four separate things: how movement and match staging work, whether the visuals remain consistent from episode to episode, how clearly key plays read, and how well performances, music and story carry the material. The reporting cited here speaks chiefly to animation reception; it does not supply a scored comparison across those categories.
The manga is the source material, but the available information does not establish which specific volumes correspond to the season’s full adaptation. Readers who want to switch formats should check the manga’s chapter and volume contents rather than assume a particular volume is an exact season-ending handoff.

Where can you stream it?
Crunchyroll announced that it would stream season 2 when it premiered in Japan in October 2024. That is a historical announcement, not confirmation that the season is currently available in every country. Check the service’s current catalog in your region before subscribing or planning a watch.
