Barry Weiss’s reported departure from Storage Wars was his own choice: in a 2017 interview, he said he had “had enough and kind of wanted to leave while it was still popular,” according to TV Insider. He left the main show in 2013. His serious motorcycle accident happened years later, in 2019, so it did not prompt that original exit.
Why did Barry Weiss leave Storage Wars?
TV Insider reported that Weiss gave a straightforward reason in a 2017 video interview: he “had enough and kind of wanted to leave while it was still popular.” The original interview has not been independently reviewed here, so that explanation is best understood as TV Insider’s account of his remarks, not as a direct transcript.
Weiss had become a distinctive presence on the show. A&E describes him as an eccentric collector who had collected antiques since age 15, with interests ranging from classic cars to war relics. That background fit a series built around the gamble of bidding on abandoned or repossessed storage units in hopes of finding valuable contents.
Did his motorcycle accident cause his departure?
No. TV Insider places Weiss’s departure from the main cast in 2013 and his motorcycle crash in April 2019. The crash, which left him seriously injured and required hospitalization and multiple surgeries, occurred about six years after he left the show. It cannot explain his original exit.

The chronology matters because accounts of his later recovery can be easy to confuse with the earlier decision to step away. The reported reason for leaving was that he felt ready to go while the show remained popular; the accident was a separate event.
When did Barry Weiss return to the auction game?
Weiss did later return to the series. A&E’s listing for a 2021 episode describes him and Kenny Crossley meeting Brandi Passante and the Dotsons as Weiss planned a return to the auction game. TV Insider also reports subsequent appearances.
