The phrase “absolutely disgusted” came from a headline, not a measurement of Huberman’s audience. The discussion it refers to followed a March 25, 2024, New York Magazine investigation by Kerry Howley, which reported former partners’ accounts of overlapping relationships and alleged anger. Huberman’s representative disputed several claims. Coverage recorded both criticism and support, but no cited source measured how many listeners were disgusted.
What prompted the backlash?
Howley’s New York Magazine investigation, “Andrew Huberman’s Mechanisms of Control”, contrasted Huberman’s public identity as a Stanford neuroscientist and popular science-and-wellness host with accounts from women who said he concealed overlapping relationships.
The article reported that Sarah, a pseudonymous former partner, understood their relationship to be exclusive earlier than Huberman’s representative said it became exclusive. Other women interviewed by Howley described relationships that lasted over time and said they generally did not know he was seeing others. These are accounts reported by the magazine, not findings established by a court or an independent investigation.
What was alleged, and what was disputed?
Howley also reported Sarah’s account of yelling and anger during arguments. Huberman’s spokesperson disputed her descriptions of their fights, denied that his anger intensified when they began living together, and denied that he made a reported remark about her past. The spokesperson told New York Magazine, “Dr. Huberman is very much in control of his emotions.”

On HPV, Sarah told Howley she tested positive for a high-risk variant after years of regular testing. Huberman’s spokesperson said he had never tested positive for HPV. The article noted that the CDC has no approved test for HPV in men. The reporting does not establish that Huberman transmitted HPV or establish his infection status.
The investigation also described a disagreement over IVF and whether the couple had decided to have children together. Sarah’s account was that they wanted children; a spokesperson said they had decided to create embryos through IVF. Huberman declined an interview, and his spokesperson provided responses to a number of claims.

What did Stanford say about his lab?
Howley included critical accounts from people familiar with Huberman’s lab and Stanford’s response. A spokesperson for Huberman said, as quoted in the article: “Dr. Huberman’s lab at Stanford is operational and is in the process of moving from the Department of Neurobiology to the Department of Ophthalmology.” The critical accounts and the institution’s response should be read together, rather than treating either as a complete account of the lab’s status.
Why did the story affect listener trust?
For some listeners, the reported conduct seemed at odds with a public persona built around discipline, self-management, and science-based guidance. Others argued that a host’s personal life and the usefulness of particular advice can be judged separately. The debate is about both the reported behavior and what listeners expect from someone who presents himself as a public health and wellness educator.

In a May 2024 Guardian article about whether influencers should follow their own advice, journalist Shayla Love quoted one YouTube commenter saying, “I think his personal life might be a failure but some of what he teaches is useful for people.” Another commenter argued that private treatment of other people should matter when a person publicly advocates for mental and physical health. These comments illustrate different positions; they are not a poll or a representative sample of listeners.
Arwa Mahdawi’s contemporaneous Guardian coverage also described divided reactions. Among those who defended Huberman’s position on the coverage was Lex Fridman, who called the New York Magazine story a “hit-piece.” The Guardian piece also described people condemning or mocking Huberman. The coverage does not quantify the size of either camp.

How should the relationship allegations be separated from scientific criticism?
Personal conduct and the reliability of health advice are distinct questions. A reader can consider the reported accounts relevant to trust without treating them as evidence that a scientific claim is false. Conversely, a listener who separates private life from advice still needs to assess each health claim on its evidence, including whether it is supported by human research and whether its limits are explained.
A 2023 TIME profile documented scientists’ criticism of the podcast’s presentation, including extrapolating animal research to humans and expressing confidence where evidence may be uncertain. That is a separate, earlier debate about how scientific evidence is communicated; it does not prove or disprove the relationship allegations in Howley’s 2024 article.

What is known about the scale of the reaction?
There is no cited statistic showing what proportion of Huberman’s fans were disgusted, supportive, or undecided. The phrase in the title should therefore be read as provocative framing, not a poll result. TIME reported in 2023 that the podcast regularly ranked among Spotify and Apple’s top ten and had more than 3.5 million YouTube subscribers at that time. Those are historical audience figures from TIME’s profile, not current counts or evidence of how listeners reacted in 2024.
The publication timeline helps explain why the story continued to draw attention: Howley’s investigation appeared on March 25, 2024; Mahdawi’s Guardian summary followed on March 28 and was amended the next day to correct an institutional description; and Love’s Guardian analysis of the influencer debate was published May 30. Lex Fridman’s June 28, 2024 episode listing for an interview with Huberman included “Controversy” and “Relationships” among its topics, but the listing alone does not establish what Huberman said about particular allegations or amount to an apology or complete response.
