Ana Navarro said hosting the second night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention was a “mind-blowing moment” because it brought together her childhood escape from Nicaragua and the home and opportunity she found in the United States. She announced the role on August 19, 2024; the convention took place in Chicago that August, so the original headline’s “preps to host” describes a past event, not an upcoming one.
Why the DNC hosting role moved Navarro
In a video announcing she would host Night 2, Navarro connected the opportunity to her own history. TV Insider quoted her saying: “I’m a little refugee girl who fled communism, who fled Nicaragua at the age of eight, found freedom, found opportunity, found a home in America, and for me to have the chance to stand on that stage and help my girl, Kamala, make history and become the Democratic nominee, it’s just such a mind-blowing moment.”

What she was scheduled to host
Navarro announced she would host the convention’s second night at the United Center in Chicago. TV Insider reported that Doug Emhoff and Barack and Michelle Obama were expected to speak that night. The role was part of the 2024 DNC, held in August 2024.

Why the headline calls her a Republican
ABC’s biography identifies Navarro as a registered Republican, political strategist and commentator, and senior political commentator on CNN. The same biography says she was born in Nicaragua and immigrated to the United States in 1980, when she was eight. ABC’s biography of Ana Navarro
Her political identity is relevant context, but the emotional explanation she gave was personal: she described the hosting opportunity as a chance to help Kamala Harris make history in a country she said had become her home.

Navarro’s convention role was separate from her television appointment. ABC announced her as a co-host of The View in 2022, beginning with Season 26. Before that, she had joined the show as a contributor in 2015 and appeared recurrently as a guest co-host starting in 2018. ABC’s 2022 announcement
In that announcement, executive producer Brian Teta praised her as “a strong independent thinker with savvy insight, not to mention that she is whip-smart and fiercely funny.” His comment referred to her The View appointment, not her later DNC hosting.
