Amazon Prime usually includes only the Prime Video catalog marked “Included with Prime.” A separate charge can come from a premium-channel subscription, Ad Free, a rental or purchase, a live event, a renewal, another user, or third-party billing. Here is how to identify the exact transaction and stop future charges.
The short answer
Amazon Prime does not make every title or feature on Prime Video free. Your Prime membership normally includes the changing catalog marked Included with Prime, but Prime Video can also bill you for rentals, purchases, premium-channel subscriptions, the Ad Free option, live or pay-per-view events, or a subscription renewal.
So a Prime Video charge does not automatically mean that Amazon charged you twice for Prime. The decisive evidence is the subscription or order record connected to the transaction—not simply the fact that you have Amazon Prime.
The seven most likely reasons for the charge
1. A Prime Video add-on subscription renewed
Prime Video offers subscriptions to separate third-party services, such as premium networks and other channel providers. These subscriptions are billed in addition to the cost of Amazon Prime or a Prime Video membership.

This is especially likely if the charge is recurring and smaller than your normal monthly or annual Prime renewal. A free trial may also have converted to a paid subscription when the trial period ended. Prices, taxes, promotional rates, renewal dates, and available channels vary by country and provider, so the amount alone cannot identify the service.
2. Prime Video Ad Free was added
Prime Video’s Ad Free option is a separate subscription category. You can therefore have an active Amazon Prime membership and still receive an additional charge for Ad Free.
Check your Prime Video subscription settings for an Ad Free subscription before assuming you have been billed for a second Prime membership. If you want to keep Prime but stop the extra charge, cancel Ad Free separately.
3. A movie, episode, season, or other title was rented or purchased
Prime members can rent or buy selected movies and other programs for an additional fee. In the Prime Video interface, titles that are not included with Prime should be marked with a rental or purchase price.

A title that was previously included can also leave the Included with Prime catalog when licensing terms change. That means a program you watched at no extra cost in the past may later require a rental or purchase.
Purchased and rented titles appear in Prime Video > My Stuff > Purchases & Rentals. Rentals are available for a limited period. Amazon generally describes a rental as remaining in the video library for 30 days, with at least 48 hours to finish after playback begins, although some titles can have different or longer viewing periods.
4. A live event or pay-per-view program was purchased
Depending on your market, Prime Video may offer sports, special broadcasts, concerts, or other live events on a pay-per-view basis. Those purchases are separate from the regular Prime membership.
Event availability, pricing, and billing rules differ by location and can change. Do not assume that a live event was included merely because you accessed it through Prime Video.
5. Amazon Prime or a Prime Video subscription renewed
The transaction may be a membership renewal rather than a separate movie or channel charge. Amazon’s own guidance for unknown charges recommends checking whether an Amazon Prime membership or a Prime Video subscription renewed.
The wording on a bank statement can also be confusing. A customer may see a Prime Video-related descriptor even when the underlying transaction is a membership renewal. In some markets, a customer may also have both an Amazon Prime membership and a separate Prime Video-only subscription.
Free trials can make the timing harder to understand. For example, if you began an Amazon Prime trial and a separate Prime Video add-on trial around the same time, the two subscriptions may renew on different dates and create two different charges.

6. Someone else used the Amazon account or payment card
A child, spouse, friend, coworker, or another person with access to the account or card may have rented or purchased something. The charge may also belong to another Amazon account that uses the same credit or debit card.
Check whether additional cards are linked to the bank account and whether another household member uses a different Amazon login. This is a common explanation when the charge does not appear in your own Prime Video subscriptions or Purchases & Rentals.
7. The subscription is billed through a third party
You may have started Prime Video through a mobile provider or another external billing partner. In that case, the subscription may not be controlled by the same cancellation screen as a subscription billed directly by Amazon.
If the charge is connected to a mobile carrier or another third party, cancellation, billing questions, and refund requests generally must be handled by that provider.
How to identify exactly what the charge is
- Compare the transaction date and amount with your renewal dates. Look at the bank statement and your Amazon account together. Do not rely on the amount alone: taxes, promotions, regional pricing, and different billing schedules can make similar services cost different amounts.
- Open Prime Video Account & Settings. Review active subscriptions for a Prime Video-only plan, an add-on channel, or Ad Free. The exact labels can vary by country and by whether you are using a browser, phone, smart-TV app, or streaming device.
- Check Prime Video > My Stuff > Purchases & Rentals. Look for a movie, episode, season, rental, live event, or other order made around the date of the charge.
- Check every Amazon account that uses the card. Ask household members whether they made the purchase and look for additional cards or Amazon profiles connected to the same payment account.
- Check third-party billing. Review your mobile-provider account or other service accounts if you originally subscribed outside Amazon’s direct checkout.
The account record is more reliable than trying to decode a bank-statement descriptor. A bank may abbreviate the merchant name, while the Amazon account can show the actual title, subscription, renewal, or event.
How to stop future charges
Cancel a Prime Video-only subscription
For a Prime Video-only subscription billed directly by Amazon:
- Open Prime Video and go to Account & Settings.
- Select the Your Account tab.
- Choose End Subscription for the Prime Video subscription.
If you want to cancel the broader Amazon Prime membership instead, use the Prime Membership section and select Edit on Amazon. Review the displayed end date and any other active subscriptions before leaving the page.
Cancel an add-on channel
Open the Prime Video add-on subscription controls in Account & Settings, select the individual channel or service, and cancel it. Ending Amazon Prime can prevent certain subscriptions tied to the membership from renewing after the membership ends, but you should still verify the end date and check for separately listed subscriptions.
Cancel Prime Video Ad Free
Find the separate Ad Free subscription in Prime Video settings and cancel it independently if you want to retain Amazon Prime while removing the additional Ad Free charge.
Cancel an accidental rental or purchase
Amazon says an accidental Prime Video order can generally be canceled within 14 days if you have not attempted to watch or download it. The process is:
- Go to PrimeVideo.com > My Stuff > Purchases & Rentals.
- Select the title.
- Do not press Play and do not download it.
- Choose Cancel Your Order or Withdraw, depending on the label shown.
- Select a reason and confirm the cancellation.
Amazon says the refund is issued to the payment method used for the order. The 14-day period is conditional, not an automatic refund guarantee: you must not have attempted to watch or download the title. Purchases billed through Apple may have different cancellation options and may need to be managed through Apple.

What to do if the charge is still unexplained
If no subscription, renewal, rental, purchase, or third-party account matches the transaction, contact Amazon customer support. Have the following information ready:
- the charge date and amount;
- the name and email address on the Amazon account;
- the telephone number associated with the account; and
- information about the cards associated with the account.
Do not post your complete card number in a comment, email, or public chat. Provide payment details only through Amazon’s official support process and only when requested through the appropriate secure channel. Do not assume that an unexplained charge will automatically qualify for a refund; Amazon must review the transaction and the applicable purchase or billing rules.

- Change your Amazon password, particularly if you reused it on another website.
- Review recent account activity, orders, devices, and payment methods.
- Remove unfamiliar payment methods where appropriate.
- Ask other household users whether they made the transaction.
- Set a Prime Video purchase PIN or enable purchase restrictions to reduce accidental rentals and purchases.
Purchase restrictions help prevent new orders, but they do not explain or automatically reverse an existing charge. If your bank indicates that the card itself may have been compromised, follow the bank’s process for securing or replacing the card as well as contacting Amazon.
What the charge does not necessarily mean
A Prime Video charge does not necessarily mean that you were charged twice for the same Prime benefit. Amazon Prime’s Included with Prime catalog, Prime Video add-on subscriptions, Ad Free, rentals, purchases, live events, and membership renewals are separate billing categories.
The fastest way to distinguish them is to match the exact transaction date and amount to Account & Settings, Purchases & Rentals, other Amazon accounts, and any third-party billing account. If none matches, use Amazon support rather than guessing from the statement description.
