If a YouTube Live real estate playlist shows “Video unavailable,” the most likely issue is a visibility mismatch: the recording may be private, the playlist may be private, or a viewer may not be signed into the account invited to watch a private recording. A public playlist does not make a private video public. Check the recording and playlist separately in YouTube Studio; if no recording exists, the stream may not have been archived.
Check the recording and playlist separately
YouTube controls a video’s visibility separately from the visibility of a playlist containing it. A playlist can be public while one of its livestream recordings remains private, so viewers may see an unavailable item rather than be able to play it. The title alone does not identify a particular playlist or establish which setting is responsible.
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab.
- Find the real estate livestream recording and inspect its visibility. If appropriate, change it to public or unlisted and save.
- In Studio, open Content > Playlists and check the playlist’s visibility independently. Change it if appropriate.
- Ask a viewer to try the video link again after the changes are saved.
Public videos are broadly viewable. Unlisted videos can be watched by people with the link, although they are generally omitted from YouTube search and channel video listings. Private videos are restricted to the owner and selected viewers. A public playlist does not override an individual video’s privacy setting. YouTube’s guidance on visibility is at Video privacy settings and Change playlist privacy settings.
What each visibility setting means for viewers

These settings also apply independently to playlists. YouTube describes the distinctions in its video privacy guidance and playlist privacy guidance.

If the video is intentionally private
A private recording will not play for a viewer who is signed out or signed into the wrong Google account, even if that person has the playlist link. Confirm that the viewer is using the account invited to access the video, and send the specific video link rather than relying only on the channel homepage. YouTube’s instructions are in Video privacy settings.
Could an older unlisted upload have become private?
Possibly, if the recording is an older upload. YouTube says that beginning July 23, 2021, it made unlisted videos uploaded before January 1, 2017 private unless the owner opted out. The change also applied to some older unlisted playlists. This is one possible explanation for an older item; it does not explain every private livestream recording.

For an affected upload, YouTube describes options that include keeping it private, restoring its legacy unlisted status where available, making it public, or re-uploading it. A re-upload gets a new URL and does not inherit the original upload’s associated data, such as views or comments. See YouTube’s guidance on the unlisted-video privacy update.
If there is no recording in the playlist
An unavailable item and a missing archive are different problems. First check Studio’s Content > Live tab to see whether YouTube captured a recording. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Its current archive guidance recommends recording a local backup: “We recommend recording a local archive as a backup.” A backup can help with future streams; it cannot establish that a missing recording was captured or recover one that was never captured. For future broadcasts, check the live recording and playlist visibility after the stream, and save a local archive as a backup.
