A Lucknow court’s reported procedural direction over an Aaj Tak episode about Partition did not find anchor Anjana Om Kashyap or the channel guilty. The matter began with a complaint by former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, who alleged that the programme could foster hostility between religious communities. The court’s reported action moved the complaint forward; it did not establish those allegations as true.
What was the Partition episode about?
Aaj Tak aired the episode on August 14, 2025, as part of Black and White, hosted by Anjana Om Kashyap. Its Hindi title was “Bharat vibhajan ka maksad pura kyun nahi hua?”—“Why was the purpose of India’s Partition not fulfilled?” Newslaundry reported the episode’s title and broadcast; Scroll also described the programme and the complaint.
The title states the programme’s framing. It is not a legal finding or a neutral conclusion about Partition. The court proceeding concerns allegations about the broadcast, not a judicial determination of the historical question posed by the episode.
What did Amitabh Thakur allege?
Thakur, a former IPS officer, complained that the programme’s treatment of Partition and its framing of why Muslims remained in India could encourage hostility between religious communities. Those are his allegations, not established findings about the broadcast. Reports say he first approached Gomtinagar police seeking an FIR and turned to court after police did not act. Newslaundry’s account and Scroll’s report describe his complaint.
Reporting says Thakur invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 196 and 197, which concern enmity between groups and assertions prejudicial to national integration. That describes the legal provisions cited in the complaint; it does not mean the court found that the programme violated them. No independently verified Partition demographic statistic is needed to explain this case. A figure reported by Scroll as appearing in a social-media caption cited by the complainant—“Out of 4 crore Muslims, only 96 lakh went to Pakistan”—should not be treated as validated demographic data.
What did the Lucknow court direct?
Contemporaneous accounts described different procedural steps. On September 8, 2025, Newslaundry reported that a Lucknow court had directed registration of a complaint case. A PTI report published by ThePrint on September 9 described a direction to police to file an FIR and said September 30 was the next hearing date. These reports should not be collapsed into a finding on the merits: both concern the early handling of the complaint. ThePrint’s PTI report gives the FIR account and scheduled date.

- Sebastian C. Adams was a 19th-century educator and minister who spent years drawing this chart by hand before publishing it in 1871. He wanted ordinary families to see how the Bible and world history fit together, not as two separate stories, but as one. This edition carries that same purpose: 21 full-size panels, a hardcover case that keeps them together, and a chart you can open with your children the way parents did more than a century ago.
- There is something almost overwhelming about seeing six thousand years laid out side by side. While one kingdom rises, another is already fading. While prophets speak in one land, armies are marching in another. This synchronological chart places sacred and secular history in parallel columns, using the same Ussher chronology that generations of North American families learned in Sunday school. Parents will recognize it. Their children will see it for the first time.
- Fold it open like a book, or stretch it across the floor and watch it run twenty-three feet from wall to wall. Twenty-one panels unfold into one continuous stream of time, from Creation to the late 19th century. This is the kind of thing you gather the family around on a Sunday afternoon, or leave on a classroom wall for a semester. Kids who see the whole sweep of history stretched out before them start asking questions you never expected.
- This edition preserves the 19th-century voice of the original chart—its handwritten commentary, its period artwork, and the way it reads like a document from another time. It is the same chart that hung in libraries and classrooms in the 1870s, inviting readers to trace the rise and fall of nations, the lives of prophets and kings, and the quiet turning points that shaped the world. You are not just looking at history. You are reading it the way a 19th-century student would have.
- Some resources are meant to be studied. This one is meant to be lived with. Homeschool families use it as a spine for world history. Bible study groups unfold it on a long table. Parents tell us their kids keep it open on the floor, tracing the line from Adam to Abraham to David to Christ. It also makes a gift that says something: here is the whole story, from the beginning, in your hands.
A reproduced complaint document identifies JM-III Lucknow case number 82468/2025 and says that on August 18, 2025, the court asked Thakur to establish territorial jurisdiction. The document records the complainant’s filing and account; it is not a substitute for the court’s order. The reproduced document is available here.
Does the direction mean Anjana Om Kashyap was found guilty?
No. A complaint, an FIR and a final judicial determination are different stages:

| Private complaint | Thakur presented allegations to police and then pursued the matter in court. |
| Registration or police investigation | The reported directions concern taking the complaint forward; they do not establish the allegations as true. |
| Final judicial determination | A decision on whether an offence was committed. The cited September 2025 reports do not establish such a determination. |
The reports do not provide a verbatim statement by a named judge setting out the court’s reasoning. Accordingly, the direction should be described through the contemporaneous reporting, not expanded into a judicial quote or a conclusion the court has not been reported to make.

The September 2025 report identified September 30 as a scheduled hearing, but a scheduled date alone does not show that a hearing occurred. As of October 8, 2026, the available reporting and reproduced document do not verify whether that hearing took place, whether a later order was issued, or how the proceeding ended. The case’s eventual status therefore remains unconfirmed in these sources.
