In an interview with TV Insider, published February 13, 2026, Baelor actor Bertie Carvel explained: “We very much stay with Dunk, and so I guess you see that sequence through Dunk’s eyes.”
Why the episode does not show Baelor’s fight with Maekar
The explanation Carvel gives is about point of view: the battle is presented through Dunk’s experience rather than as a series of separate duels. Baelor’s fatal encounter with Maekar happens amid the Trial of Seven, but the episode does not give it a complete, standalone fight scene.
Wiki of Thrones reported on February 18, 2026, that a brief shot of Maekar striking Baelor, along with some lead-up footage, was filmed but left out of the finished sequence. The available reporting therefore supports a Dunk-centered narrative choice; it does not establish spoiler avoidance as Carvel’s stated reason.
What happens in the Trial of Seven
The Trial of Seven takes place in Season 1, Episode 5, “In the Name of the Mother.” Baelor joins Dunk’s side, while Maekar fights for his son Aerion. In the chaos of the battle, Maekar strikes Baelor, who dies after the fight. TV Insider’s February 15, 2026, episode coverage provides this context for the death viewers see without a full Baelor-versus-Maekar sequence.

Why Baelor chooses to fight for Dunk
Carvel connects Baelor’s decision to Egg and the example adults set for children. In TV Insider’s February 13, 2026, interview, he says: “The story is about the fact that you decide from one moment to the next whether you’re going to do the right thing.” He adds that Baelor “can see in the example of his brothers what [Egg] might become” and “has hope for that boy and wants to set a good example.”
How the episode’s viewpoint shapes the omission
Keeping the scene aligned with Dunk means Baelor’s death is part of the battle’s outcome, not a separate confrontation staged for the audience. That choice limits what viewers see of Baelor’s final moments while preserving the sequence’s focus on Dunk and the trial unfolding around him.
