In comments reported in October 2025, he connected that challenge to Roberts, their relationship, and the recovery story at the heart of The Resurrection of Jake the Snake. Page also said the project had been going on for years and noted how difficult it is to get a film made. The available reporting does not establish whether the feature has advanced since those remarks.
What DDP said about the screenplay
Page discussed the proposed film during an October 15, 2025 appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. Thomas Lowson’s SEScoops report, published the next day, quoted Page saying writers had tried to adapt Roberts’s story but that the drafts had not captured what the project wanted. Page described the writing as strong, while saying it still missed the intended story.
“We’ve had a couple of guys come in and try to write it… The writing was great, really great, but it didn’t quite capture what they wanted it to be.”
Page also conveyed why he was cautious about discussing the film: “It’s been going on for years. I don’t really talk about it because… You know how hard it is to get something made, bro.” Both quotations are attributed to Page as reported by SEScoops on October 16, 2025.
Ringside News published a longer excerpt from the same appearance, with slightly different wording. These are accounts of one interview, not independent confirmation of separate screenplay problems. The common point is that the attempts did not land on the story Page wanted to tell, and that making a film is difficult.
Why the documentary is central to the story
The proposed feature is connected to The Resurrection of Jake the Snake, the documentary Page made about Roberts’s recovery. In a 2016 interview with Slam Wrestling, Page described the film’s purpose as redemption and said Roberts had mentored him; making the documentary was also a way to repay his friend. Page said, “To me, it had to be a movie of redemption, and it had to show all of the negative, crazy shit that happened.”
That framing matters because the story Page described is more than a chronological account of Roberts’s wrestling career. It is also about a personal bond and a recovery journey. The documentary’s director, Steve Yu, told Screen Anarchy in 2015 that the film was intended as a human story for viewers beyond wrestling fans. He also described a production that followed Roberts through setbacks and relapses, with no certainty that the filmmakers would finish it.
Those descriptions suggest why finding the right feature screenplay may be challenging: the adaptation has to represent both the history and the complicated relationship and recovery narrative without reducing them to a career recap. That is an interpretation of Page’s reported comments alongside the documentary filmmakers’ descriptions, not a confirmed account of specific script revisions. Read the interviews at Slam Wrestling and Screen Anarchy.
What is known about the film’s status
Page’s October 2025 remarks establish that screenplay attempts had taken place and that he said the project had been going on for years. They do not establish that production is currently underway, nor do they confirm a release date or a later development milestone. The cited reporting identifies story fit and the general difficulty of making a film; it does not identify financing, rights, casting, or a studio deal as the obstacle.
Slam Wrestling’s 2016 interview notes that Roberts was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014, a moment Page viewed as a desired endpoint in the recovery story. That milestone provides context for the documentary’s arc, but it says nothing about the status of a separate feature film.
