Venue 013 canceled Bob Vylan’s Tilburg concert scheduled for 16 September 2025 because of remarks made at Amsterdam’s Paradiso the night before—not simply because of the group’s earlier “death to the IDF” chant. 013 said the new comments crossed its boundary; Bob Vylan disputed the suggestion that it celebrated Charlie Kirk’s death. Dutch prosecutors later said the statements they assessed were not punishable under the offenses they considered.
Why was Bob Vylan’s Netherlands show canceled?
013, the Tilburg venue, canceled the band’s planned performance on Tuesday 16 September 2025. In its event statement, the venue identified Bob Vylan’s comments at Paradiso in Amsterdam the previous evening as the immediate reason. 013 said it could not offer a platform to remarks it characterized as minimizing political murder and urging people to seek others out in the street. It told ticket holders to expect refund information by email.
That was 013’s assessment of the remarks, not a legal finding. The band rejected the characterization that it celebrated Kirk’s death.
Was the cancellation over Israel or Charlie Kirk?
The Israel controversy formed part of the background, but 013 distinguished it from the trigger for canceling this particular show. After Bob Vylan’s “death to the IDF” chant at Glastonbury, 013 had decided to let the group perform. The venue said it understood the band’s anger about Gaza and regarded the chant as criticism of the Israeli army, not an antisemitic slogan. It said that position had not changed; it was the subsequent Paradiso remarks that went too far for the venue.

NOS reported that the 13 September Paradiso performance included an anti-IDF chant as well as comments about Kirk. NOS’s account also describes Bobby Vylan calling Kirk a “piece of shit” and making remarks about fascists and Zionists that included urging people to meet them in the streets.
What did Bob Vylan say about Kirk’s death?
In a video responding to the controversy, the band acknowledged the insult but denied that the performance celebrated Kirk’s death. Bobby Vylan said, “At no point during yesterday’s show was Charlie Kirk’s death celebrated.” That is the band’s account; 013’s statement gave a different interpretation of the remarks and explained why it canceled the Tilburg booking. The band’s response should be read alongside the venue’s stated rationale rather than treated as a finding about what the comments meant.

What happened to the separate Nijmegen show?
A scheduled performance at Nijmegen’s Doornroosje on 15 September went ahead. The venue said it had not established that the Paradiso remarks were criminal and would not reverse its booking decision. Paradiso’s director likewise said he did not regret the booking, describing it as a way to give artistic freedom of expression a place. NOS reported that he attended the full show, considered the remarks about Kirk and the IDF offensive, and said the street remark was directed at fascists.
An urgent request to block the Nijmegen concert was rejected by the Gelderland court. In its later explanation, the court said the remarks had to be understood in context and that allowing the show was not unlawful on the record before it. This was an interim civil decision about whether that performance could proceed, not a criminal verdict. The court’s explanation concerns the Nijmegen event, not 013’s cancellation in Tilburg.

What did Dutch prosecutors later decide?
On 5 November 2025, the Dutch Public Prosecution Service said four statements it assessed from the Paradiso performance were not punishable as group insult, incitement to hatred or discrimination, or incitement. The service said 35 organizations and individuals had filed complaints. It also said complainants who objected could submit a complaint to the court of appeal. The available sources do not establish whether anyone used that route. This was the prosecution service’s decision not to prosecute the assessed statements, not a court ruling after a criminal trial. The prosecution service’s notice sets out its conclusion.

The Tilburg cancellation was separate from changes to Bob Vylan’s earlier planned Amsterdam and Tilburg appearances on Gogol Bordello’s tour. NOS reported that the duo withdrew from that tour in July, citing “logistical complications,” while Gogol Bordello said it had tried to find a solution. At the time, NOS also reported that 013 saw no reason to cancel the group’s separate October performance after the Glastonbury dispute. The September decision followed the Paradiso remarks and was explained by 013 on that basis. NOS’s report on the July changes covers that separate episode.
