Whoopi Goldberg’s COVID-related absence from The View dates to September 5, 2023—not a confirmed new diagnosis in October 2026. Current episode listings do not establish that she has COVID now. A separate two-week absence reported in September 2026 was attributed to movie filming.
When did Whoopi Goldberg test positive for COVID?
On September 5, 2023, Goldberg missed the Season 27 premiere of The View. Co-host Joy Behar announced on air that Goldberg had COVID and was recovering. Salon reproduced Behar’s statement: “As you can see, Whoopi is not here, she has COVID. Yes, it’s back, it’s back, but she’s on the mend, she’s on the tail end, and she’ll probably be back this week.” Behar also apologized to viewers who had expected Goldberg. Salon’s report

Why was Goldberg absent from ‘The View’ in 2026?
A separate absence reported in September 2026 was planned while Goldberg filmed a movie. TV Insider reported that former co-hosts were scheduled to fill in and tied the information to an appearance on executive producer Brian Teta’s Behind the Table podcast. That explanation is distinct from the COVID-related absence three years earlier. TV Insider’s report

No. ABC’s episode guide lists episodes on October 1, 2, 5 and 6, and the official schedule gives the October 5–9 lineup. Those pages document show episodes and guests, but do not establish whether Goldberg appeared or was absent on a particular day, and do not confirm a new COVID infection. Accordingly, the present-tense wording “tests positive” should not be read as confirmation of a diagnosis in 2026: the COVID announcement documented here is from September 2023, and the later reported hiatus had a filming-related explanation.
