Whoopi Goldberg’s name appears in a May 2013 email about arranging a possible private-plane trip to Monaco for a Julian Lennon charity event. The email, as reported, asked Jeffrey Epstein whether he would offer his aircraft, and the reply was quoted as “no thnaks” [sic]. On The View on February 17, 2026, Goldberg said she was not Epstein’s girlfriend or friend and that she did not get on the plane. A name in an email is not, by itself, evidence of a personal relationship or of wrongdoing.
What the 2013 email says, as reported
The account of the email comes from reporting by The Independent. According to that report, the message discussed Goldberg’s need for a plane to Monaco for a charity event tied to Julian Lennon, and it asked Epstein whether he would offer his “G2” aircraft. The reply is quoted as “no thnaks” [sic]. The Independent’s report is the source for these details; the email itself was not independently checked for this article, so the account of its wording should be read as the reporting’s version.
Goldberg corrected one detail when she discussed the message. As reported, the email referred to “John Lennon’s” charity, but the event was associated with Julian Lennon. That correction matters because it shows the message was about a specific charity event rather than an unrelated social request.
Goldberg’s response on The View
Goldberg addressed the mention on The View on February 17, 2026. She read the gist of the email aloud and said, “In the name of transparency, my name is in the files, yes!” as quoted by Us Weekly. She then said, “I wasn’t his girlfriend, I wasn’t his friend,” a line reported by both The Independent and Us Weekly. She also said she did not get on the plane.

What the reporting does and does not establish
The reporting supports the following points:
- Goldberg’s name appears in a May 2013 email that discussed a possible plane to Monaco.
- The email, as quoted, asked Epstein whether he would offer his aircraft for the Julian Lennon charity event.
- Goldberg publicly acknowledged the mention and denied a personal relationship with Epstein.
- Goldberg said she did not board the plane.
The reporting does not establish any of the following:
Rank #2
- That Goldberg traveled on Epstein’s plane.
- That the proposed flight was arranged or completed.
- Any wrongdoing by Goldberg, or any implication in Epstein’s crimes.
Why a name in the files is not proof of a relationship
Co-host Sara Haines made a point on the same program that is useful context for any name in these records. Quoted by Us Weekly, she said: “A lot of reasons your name can be mentioned is news articles, third-party emails, contacts.” A name can appear because a person was discussed, copied, or contacted, not because they had a close connection. In Goldberg’s case, the reported email is a request about a charity event, and her own account describes it that way.
The practical test for any name in a document like this is what the document actually says about that person: whether they were a participant, a recipient, a subject of discussion, or simply mentioned. Here, the public record describes a proposed travel arrangement and a reply declining to offer the plane, and Goldberg’s statement that she was not in a personal relationship with Epstein and did not board the plane.

Goldberg’s name in the Epstein files is therefore a reference inside a 2013 email about a proposed charity trip. The reporting supports that description and her denial of a personal connection. It does not support a broader claim about her conduct.
