At Pennsylvania rallies on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Trump called Hostin “dumber than Kamala” and said, “That is one dumb woman. Sorry. I’m sorry, women, she’s a dummy,” according to AP. He later called Goldberg “demented,” recalled hiring her for a performance, and accused her of having a “foul mouth.”

How Goldberg answered
On the following day’s episode of The View, Goldberg said she had been “filthy” and that Trump knew it when he hired her. AP reported that she said he had hired her four times, then asked, “How dumb are you?”
Goldberg also invoked the Access Hollywood recording, saying: “You know how dirty I wasn’t? I never grabbed anybody by their genitalia.” She contrasted language adults might not want children to use in church with sexual assault.

Hostin’s on-air response
Hostin introduced her remarks as a “personal legal note.” AP quoted her thanking Trump for providing material for her work and joking that she had not spent as much time in a courtroom as he had. She also referred to her experience prosecuting sex offenders and to Trump’s civil liability for sexual abuse. That liability is a civil finding, not a criminal conviction.
Hostin’s fuller line, as AP reported it, was: “Donald Trump, I want to thank you for personally telling so many lies and committing so many alleged crimes and providing us with material on a daily basis. You help us do our jobs and I’m so appreciative.”

When the exchange aired—and what preceded it
The hosts’ replies aired Thursday, October 10, 2024. Two days earlier, on October 8, The View had interviewed then-Vice President Kamala Harris. ABC’s advance announcement described it as Harris’s first live interview and first talk-show appearance since she became the Democratic presidential nominee.
