Its relationship and career details are a snapshot of 2019, not a guide to anyone’s current life.
What the 2019 PerthNow profile covered
Written by Krystal Sanders and Lily Hoffmann, the feature presented the women as partners of emerging footballers and described their appearances around the clubs’ medal nights. It profiled six people. The article does not explain its separate phrase “class of 19 WAGs,” so that wording should not be treated as a verified count.
“WAG” is a label used in the article’s framing; the profiles themselves also mentioned the women’s studies, work and sporting pursuits. The historical details below are attributed to PerthNow’s reporting and are not independently verified current facts.
Who the article named
Julia Edwards and Bailey Banfield
PerthNow described Edwards as a psychology and marketing student and reported that she was dating Fremantle midfielder Bailey Banfield. It said they made their public debut at the Doig Medal presentation. The article attributed Edwards’s comments to AAA Weekend: “Bailey and I have been dating for three or four months now and we actually met a week before I left for Melbourne to compete in the Miss Universe national finals,” she said. She also described how they met: “Unfortunately, there is no romantic story behind it. He slipped into my Instagram messages in a classic millennial fashion, then invited me out for dinner and the rest is history.”
