Theresa Nist called her daughter Jen a “lifesaver” for helping her and Gerry Turner prepare for their televised wedding. In an interview ahead of the January 4, 2024 ceremony, Nist said Jen helped manage planning decisions and brought ideas for the couple to consider.
Who did Theresa call a “lifesaver”?
It was her daughter Jen—not a hired wedding planner or a product. Speaking before the wedding, Nist said, “She’s a lifesaver,” and added, “Seriously – I don’t know if there would be a wedding if she wasn’t involved.” PEOPLE’s interview, republished by Yahoo Entertainment on January 2, 2024, is the source for her comments.
How did Jen help with the wedding?
Nist described a mix of practical help and creative input. There were many decisions to make, she said, and Jen sometimes put together a vision board or brought ideas for dresses, veils, and rings. The interview presents this as a daughter supporting her mother; it does not establish that Jen was hired as a professional planner or endorse any particular attire, jewelry, vendor, or planning service.
How did the families fit into the wedding?
The celebration was presented as a family event. Nist said Jen was due to serve as maid of honor, while Turner said the wider families would be involved and that there would be a place for every family member in the wedding party. Turner also described how much he enjoyed hearing Nist’s excitement about planning choices: “I can just hear the joy in her voice when I talk to her and she’s talking about whether it’s a dress or a cake or flowers or whatever it is.”

When was the televised wedding?
Turner and Nist became engaged on the first season of The Golden Bachelor. Their wedding was scheduled as a televised special for Thursday, January 4, 2024; that date is historical, not an upcoming event. TV Insider’s January 2, 2024 report also described the family’s planned involvement.
