A viral clip from Shakira’s September 2024 appearance at LIV Miami was initially described as showing a fan filming up her dress. But event communications later said the person recording was a member of Shakira’s team, according to EFE. The clip shows Shakira gesture toward the person, ask them not to capture images below her dress, and step down from the platform; it does not establish that the recorder was a fan.
What happened at LIV Miami?
Shakira appeared at the Miami nightclub LIV on Saturday, September 14, 2024, where she danced on a platform. A short video from the appearance circulated online and was described in early reports as showing someone filming beneath her dress.

EFE later reported that event communications identified the person recording as a member of Shakira’s team, making content about her appearance. EFE also described Shakira gesturing to the person, asking them not to capture images below her dress, and then stepping down from the platform. That is a departure from the platform, not evidence that she left an entire concert midway.
Why did reports call the person a fan?
Reports published on September 16 used audience-member or fan framing. NME described an “audience member,” while India Today’s headline said a fan tried to film up her dress. Those reports captured the initial interpretation of the circulating clip, not a conclusive identification of the person recording.

#1 Best Overall
On September 17, EFE reported a clarification from event communications identifying the recorder as someone on Shakira’s team. EFE attributed the statement to Sofia Bukele, director of Hispanic and Latam Media Relations. It was not reported as a public statement by Shakira, and EFE’s account does not say it independently verified the person’s employment.
What did event communications say?
In a statement reproduced by EFE, Bukele said the person recording was a member of Shakira’s team taking content about her performance. Event communications also said Shakira asked fans to put their phones away and enjoy the moment. Both details are attributed to the event communications account, rather than to a direct interview with Shakira.

The distinction matters: a brief clip can show gestures and movement, but it does not by itself establish who someone is. The later identification changes the reported account of the recorder’s identity without changing what viewers can see in the footage.
How the account changed

What the reporting does—and does not—establish
- Established in EFE’s account: event communications identified the recorder as a member of Shakira’s team making content about her appearance.
- Visible action described by EFE: Shakira gestured, asked that images below her dress not be captured, and stepped down from the platform.
- Not established: the person’s name, an independent verification of their team role, or that Shakira left an entire concert.
For the later clarification and EFE’s description of the incident, see EFE’s September 17 report. The earlier framing also appeared in The Independent’s September 17 coverage.
