The complaints range from its wire-assisted flying to dubbing, dialogue and fights.
Who has criticized the film?
The clearest examples are individual posts and reviews, with different objections and levels of specificity. They show that detractors exist, not how common that view is.

What do the complaints focus on?
Wire-assisted flying and fantasy movement
Some negative reactions focus on the film’s floating, airborne movement. The Movie Reviews Australia reviewer found those scenes silly; the CinemaBlend reviewer considered the wire work artificial and recounted laughter in their theater. That theater anecdote describes one reviewer’s experience, not a general audience response.
Dubbing and translation
UT4EVER’s 2001 AnandTech post is specifically about the dubbed version. The poster preferred the original-language audio with English subtitles and connected dubbing and translation to friends’ negative reaction. That is an individual preference and anecdote, not a controlled comparison establishing that one version is objectively better.

#1 Best Overall
- An epic set against the breathtaking landscapes of ancient China, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon combines the exhilarating martial arts choreography by Yuen Wo-Ping (The Matrix) with the sensitivity and classical storytelling of an Ang Lee film. The result is something truly unexpected: romantic, emotionally powerful entertainment.
Dialogue and fight scenes
A commenter in a 2019 Reddit discussion objected to dialogue they considered cheesy or expository and to fights they found laughable. This is one commenter’s account rather than a broader critical consensus.
The film as a whole
Essenceofsugar’s Cinafilm review expresses broad dislike, using “worthless, tedious crap.” The statement belongs to that user reviewer; it should not be recast as the view of critics generally.

Does this mean the film is widely considered bad?
No such conclusion follows from these examples. They establish that named or identifiable individual users and reviewers disliked the film or particular aspects of it, but they do not measure prevalence. There is no representative survey or reliable count here showing how many viewers think it is “crap,” and the examples are not an exhaustive list of detractors.
