Sarah Atwood is killed by the same operatives she hired to kill John Dutton. In Season 5, Episode 11, “Three Fifty-Three,” they approach her disguised as a suburban couple; the passenger confirms her name and shoots her. Jamie hears the attack over the phone, but he is not identified as the shooter.
Who shoots Sarah Atwood?
Episode director Christina Alexandra Voros identified Sarah’s killers as the same shadowy operatives she hired to kill John. In TheWrap’s interview with Voros, she described the shooting as intentional and said, “It was meant to be shocking.” The operatives disguise themselves as a suburban couple.
The available coverage does not name the shooters individually or establish who ordered them to kill Sarah. It also does not confirm why they turn on her, so a specific motive—such as silencing a loose end—should be treated as speculation, not a confirmed plot fact.
What happens in “Three Fifty-Three”?
After seeing a police announcement that John Dutton’s death is being investigated as a murder, Sarah tries to call Grant, but the number is no longer in service. She argues with Jamie and drives away. Jamie later calls to apologize. While they are speaking, a couple pulls alongside Sarah’s car and asks if she is Sarah Atwood. The passenger opens fire, and Jamie hears the shooting through the phone. TVLine’s recap of the episode recounts the scene.
