He was also her longtime manager and an executive producer of The Wendy Williams Show. The two married in 1999 and had one son. Williams filed for divorce in April 2019, citing irreconcilable differences. A June 2025 report says the former spouses later filed a federal lawsuit together concerning Williams’ guardianship. That report describes the complaint’s allegations, and the sources cited here do not show how the case was resolved.
Who Kevin Hunter is
Kevin Hunter’s public profile comes from two overlapping roles. The Washington Post described him as Williams’ longtime manager and an executive producer of her television show, and ABC News identified him the same way in its 2019 coverage. That combination matters for understanding the relationship, because the marriage and the working partnership existed side by side. The sources cited here do not describe his career or personal circumstances after the divorce, so this profile does not make claims about them.

The divorce filing and its stated ground
The legal ground in the 2019 filing was irreconcilable differences, and that is the only reason the filing gives. Reporting at the time also described circulating claims about an alleged affair and a child. The Washington Post documented that those reports were in circulation, but the filing itself does not establish them as the cause of the split, and nothing cited here establishes that any alleged affair was legally proven. Treat them as allegations.
Williams’ memoir, Wendy’s Got the Heat, describes her own discovery of an earlier affair. That is her account, presented in her book, and it is not independent confirmation of every detail.

What each said in 2019
Kevin Hunter
When ABC News reported on the filing in April 2019, Hunter responded with a short statement: “I am going through a time of self-reflection and am trying to right some wrongs.” The statement does not say what wrongs he meant, and the coverage does not attribute any specific conduct to him.
Wendy Williams
In a September 2019 appearance on The View, Williams described the split and her approach to moving forward. According to ABC’s coverage, she said the two were co-parenting their son and declined to speak carelessly about someone she had been with for 25 years. That figure is her own description of the length of the relationship, not a verified anniversary count. She also said, “You just can’t throw away 25 years and then start talking recklessly about the other person,” and, “I’m a wife, not a girlfriend.” These remarks reflect how each person framed the split in 2019, not their views today.

The 2025 lawsuit
The Daily Beast reported in June 2025 that Williams and Hunter filed a federal lawsuit seeking to end her guardianship. The report summarizes the complaint, including a demand for $250 million in damages. That figure is what the complaint requests, not an award or an established loss. The allegations in the complaint are claims made in litigation and have not been found true by a court in the reporting cited here.
What the sources do and do not establish
- Established by contemporaneous reporting: Hunter’s identity as Williams’ former husband, the 1999 marriage year, the one child, his roles as manager and executive producer, the April 2019 filing, and the stated ground of irreconcilable differences.
- Reported but unresolved: the 2025 lawsuit and its allegations. The sources cited here do not report a ruling, settlement, or dismissal.
- Not covered by these sources: Hunter’s current occupation, income, and personal circumstances.
Reading Williams’ perspective
If you want more on the marriage, Wendy’s Got the Heat is Williams’ autobiography and discusses the relationship from her side. Read it as her account, not as a neutral biography of Hunter.
