Travis Kelce plays Ed Lachlan, an orderly at the facility caring for Detective Lois Tryon’s comatose husband. He first appears in episode three, and the character’s dreamlike introduction takes on a different meaning after the episode-seven reveal.
Who is Ed Lachlan?
Ed works as an orderly at the facility where Lois’s husband, Marshall, is being cared for. In his first appearance, he meets Lois after a difficult day and warns her not to drive drunk. He later agrees to help her leave the hospital. TheWrap reported that Kelce first appears in episode three.
The character’s name is spelled Ed Lachlan on FX’s official behind-the-scenes page. TheWrap spells it “Laclan,” but FX’s spelling is the one to use.
Why does his first scene feel like a hint?
Spoilers for episode seven: TheWrap’s October 16, 2024 report says the earlier events are a manifestation of Lois while she is comatose. Ryan Murphy said Lois and Eddie’s encounter was deliberately staged to feel dreamlike; its lighting and idyllic quality made Eddie seem like a guardian angel within Lois’s dream. That is the scene’s intended impression, not confirmation that Ed is literally an angel in the story’s reality. TheWrap’s episode-seven report discusses the reveal and Murphy’s explanation.

How did Kelce get the part?
Murphy told TheWrap that he offered Kelce a role he would specifically write and tailor for him. Kelce accepted. TheWrap quoted Murphy: “I said, ‘Well, I have this one part, and if you’re interested, I will specifically write it and tailor it for you.’ He said, ‘I would love that,’ so we were off to the races.”
