Jordin Sparks is the youngest American Idol winner ever, according to ABC. Scotty McCreery also won at 17, but he was the season 10 champion—not the youngest winner overall.
Who is the youngest American Idol winner?
Jordin Sparks won season 6 in 2007, and ABC identifies her as “the youngest Idol winner ever” in its 2022 reunion recap. That makes Sparks the direct answer to the all-time question.
How does Scotty McCreery fit in?
McCreery won season 10 on May 25, 2011, with Lauren Alaina as runner-up, according to TVLine’s winner chronology. ABC also describes him as the 2011 winner in its reunion recap.
A biographical reference lists McCreery’s birth date as October 9, 1993, which would make him 17 at the time of his victory. That age detail comes from a fan-maintained source, so it should be treated as secondary rather than as a definitive age comparison. It does not change the distinction: Sparks is identified as the youngest overall, while McCreery was a 17-year-old season 10 winner.

Why not rank every winner by age?
An exact age ranking requires consistently verified birth dates and finale dates for every winner. The sources here establish Sparks’s youngest-overall status and McCreery’s season result, but they do not provide a complete, consistently checked age-at-victory table. A numbered ranking would imply more certainty than those records support.
TVLine’s cited chronology reaches season 22, so it is useful for the season 10 result but should not be treated as a current, complete roster of winners.
