The antlered, humanoid figure Daemon Targaryen glimpses in the Harrenhal godswood in the Season 2 finale is most plausibly a Green Man, a secretive order associated with guarding the trees of the Isle of Faces. The show never names the figure or shows it clearly enough to confirm that reading, so treat “likely a Green Man” as the leading interpretation, not established canon.
What the scene actually shows
In the Season 2 finale of House of the Dragon, Daemon is with Alys Rivers near the weirwood. Before he touches the tree and falls into a vision, he notices a humanoid presence in the dark. The figure is on screen only briefly and is poorly lit, so the viewer gets only a few details.
Those details are the antlers and the steplike movement, which seems to produce hoof-like footsteps. ComicBook.com’s scene description, which is the basis for most readings of the moment, uses those two features to label the figure a possible Green Man. The same coverage describes that identification as likely rather than certain.
Why the Green Man reading is the strongest one
The case rests on two points. The first is the visual evidence: antlers and hoof-like steps fit the way Green Men are usually described. The second is the lore. The Green Men are described as a secretive or mysterious order associated with the Isle of Faces, an island in the God’s Eye near Harrenhal, and their reported role is to guard the island’s trees. A weirwood in the Harrenhal godswood is a tree of exactly that kind, so the location makes the reading fit.

That fit is the reason the interpretation is persuasive. It is not proof. Nothing in the episode confirms that the figure belongs to the order, and the show does not identify it in dialogue or in an on-screen caption.
What would confirm it, and what would not
Readers should separate three kinds of evidence:
- Visual match: antlers and hoof-like footsteps are consistent with a Green Man, but they are also consistent with a costumed figure or a vision-only image. Neither has been ruled out on screen.
- Setting match: the godswood and weirwood fit the Isle of Faces lore, which is the strongest support for the reading.
- Official confirmation: in the interviews and recaps cited here, the creators have not named the figure. Until a showrunner, writer or on-screen source does so, the identity remains an inference.
If a later episode, official companion material or a creator interview names the figure, that would be the first point at which “likely” can be dropped. Until then, the accurate answer is the interpretation with its limits stated.

Keep the creature separate from the vision
The antlered figure appears before Daemon’s larger prophetic montage. That montage includes imagery associated with Bloodraven, the White Walkers, Daenerys and her dragons, and Rhaenyra. Describing the antlered figure as Bloodraven, or as any of those later images, mixes up distinct beats in the sequence. What the director said about the vision
Finale director Geeta Vasant Patel spoke to the Los Angeles Times about the sequence. Her account explains the form of the vision but does not identify the figure. In her words:

“Ryan really wanted it to be fragmented, so that it really is this vision that [Daemon] has to put the pieces together [so] even after he leaves it, it’s something that simmers in his head.”
She also said the vision needed to show Daemon “that it’s not about him anymore, that he’s just a part of this bigger world and there’s something he must do, which is put Rhaenyra on the throne.”

The fragmentation was intentional, and her comments explain why Daemon’s behavior changes after the scene. They do not settle who the antlered figure is, so they should not be read as a clue to its identity.

When writing or discussing the scene, a safe formulation is: “a brief, dimly lit humanoid figure with antlers, which many viewers and commentators read as a Green Man.” That wording keeps the visual facts separate from the interpretation. It also avoids claiming that the show has confirmed the Green Man identity, a claim the cited coverage does not support.
