The little girl in Godzilla vs. Kong is Jia, an orphaned girl who forms a close bond with Kong. Kaylee Hottle played her. Hottle also returned as Jia in the sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The Associated Press reported in July 2026 that Hottle died in a car crash in Maryland, aged 18, and her death is noted in the section below.
Jia, the character
Jia is the only character in the film who is introduced as a child, and her role is built around her relationship with the giant ape. Legendary’s official film page describes her as “a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond.” In the story, she accompanies Kong and his protectors as they search for his true home.
Jia is the adopted daughter of Dr. Ilene Andrews. She is deaf, and she communicates with Kong by signing, which gives their bond a physical, visual language rather than spoken dialogue.
Kaylee Hottle, the actor
Kaylee Hottle played Jia. Use “Jia” when referring to the character and “Kaylee Hottle” when referring to the performer. Hottle is also deaf, so her portrayal of a deaf character was not a case of an outside performer imitating a disability.
