Stendhal—spelled “Syendhal” on the official anime character page—is a vigilante in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes who appoints himself judge of people he considers evil. The profile describes his sense of justice as distorted and lists his Quirk as 凝血, meaning blood coagulation or blood clotting.
Is Stendhal the same character as Syendhal?
Yes. The official anime character page labels him “SYENDHAL” and gives his Japanese name as スタンダール. “Stendhal” is a common English-language spelling for the character; the different romanizations do not indicate two separate characters. After introducing the official spelling, this article uses Stendhal for clarity.
He appears in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, the manga series whose story is credited to Hideyuki Furuhashi, art to Betten Court, and original concept to Kohei Horikoshi. VIZ’s official series page lists the English-language series.
Why does Stendhal kill people?
The official character profile says Stendhal kills without hesitation people he considers evil, treating the acts as judgment. It characterizes his sense of justice as distorted; this is the profile’s description of his ideology, not a clinical diagnosis. He is therefore not simply described as a vigilante who apprehends criminals: he believes he has the authority to decide who deserves to die.
