Shane Brando, a contestant on Claim to Fame Season 3, is the grandson of actor Marlon Brando. The connection was revealed in the Season 3 finale on August 28, 2024, after Mackenzie correctly identified his famous relative.
Who Shane’s famous relative is
Shane’s celebrity relative was his grandfather, Marlon Brando. Post-finale coverage, including TV Insider’s finale interview and Distractify’s interview with Shane, identifies Brando as the person Shane was related to. Shane’s own account in those interviews is the basis for the family link.

How the finale reveal played out
The finale followed a clue path rather than a single hint. Mackenzie and Hud worked from the clues toward The Godfather and then to Marlon Brando. TV Insider’s coverage of the finale quotes the wine-bottle clue as pointing to a “Hollywood icon with Italian kingpin role.” Once that connection was made, the other clues fell into place, including the valkyrie, Martin Sheen, and Mr. Mumbles clues.
Earlier in the season, contestants guessed other famous actors as Shane’s relative. Those guesses were wrong, and the finale confirmed the Brando connection.

Why Shane said “cousin” in Two Truths and a Lie
The show’s Two Truths and a Lie game requires each contestant to present statements about their family, and one of them must be a lie. Shane chose “cousin” as his lie. In his explanation, the word hid the age and era of his grandfather. Had he directly described Brando as his grandfather, an Oscar-winning actor, the answer would have been easier for other contestants to infer.
The chicken-wing necklace was a red herring
Shane’s chicken-wing necklace was not a family clue. He said it started as a joke and became a deliberate red herring that kept other contestants guessing. Viewers and players should not read it as a reliable identity clue.
Quote from Shane
In a post-finale interview with Distractify, updated August 29, 2024, Shane Brando, a contestant, said: “My Grandfather was the most amazing person I’ve ever known.”
What the show is
ABC describes Claim to Fame as a competition hosted by Kevin and Frankie Jonas in which 12 celebrity relatives live together while concealing the identities and lineage of their famous family members. ABC’s series page says contestants compete for a $100,000 prize.
