Drake is the writing name used by Robert Macias, also identified by publisher Simon & Schuster as Robert M. Drake. A 2015 profile traced how he shared short writing excerpts on social media, attracted readers and celebrity attention, and later sold books through a distribution deal and his Etsy store. That account describes a path to an audience—not proof that Instagram alone made him a bestseller.
Who is R.M. Drake?
TechTimes identified R.M. Drake as Robert Macias in a profile published February 18, 2015. Simon & Schuster’s author page identifies Robert M. Drake as an American author and lists Beautiful Chaos among his bestselling books. The naming differs slightly between the two sources, but both connect Drake with the same writing career and book.
Drake was working as an art director for a television company in Miami when he began posting pieces of writing online, according to the TechTimes profile. He described the beginning this way: “It just started as an experiment. I honestly didn’t think anyone would read it,” he told the publication.
How did social posts lead to books?
The 2015 profile describes a sequence: Drake posted excerpts, readers shared them, and celebrity reposts helped bring the writing to a wider audience. The short, visually presented pieces were excerpts from longer works, the profile says, though some readers encountered and understood them as poetry. That distinction matters: a format that travels easily on a social platform does not necessarily define the form of the larger work.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
As his audience grew, Drake entered a distribution deal that made his books available through major booksellers, including Barnes & Noble and Amazon. He also sold through an Etsy store. The article reports that Drake estimated roughly 4,000 sales per month combined across the distribution deal and Etsy. It does not break that estimate down by channel or describe it as audited sales data.
What did “Amazon best-seller” mean in this case?
On February 18, 2015, TechTimes reported that Beautiful Chaos was seventh in Amazon’s poetry category. That is a dated category ranking, not a claim about the book’s current position or its standing across all Amazon books. Simon & Schuster independently confirms Drake’s authorship of Beautiful Chaos, but its author page does not verify the historical ranking or the sales estimate.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the story shows—and what it does not
Drake’s reported route combined discoverability on social platforms, sharing by readers and celebrities, and ways to buy the work through book retailers and a direct Etsy store. It is a useful example of how online excerpts can connect an author with readers and support book sales. It is not evidence that Instagram by itself caused a bestseller ranking, nor does the profile provide enough detail to compare sales from social referrals, booksellers, or Etsy.
