Peter van der Veen, often called Pete, is a Dutch personal-security professional whom reporting has connected with Lady Gaga and Adele. His sudden “hot bodyguard” fame came in 2015, when coverage of Adele drew attention to his appearance. Van der Veen himself objected to being reduced to that image. The photos are only part of the story: his reported background includes police work, bodybuilding and a move into private security.
Who is Peter van der Veen?
Peter van der Veen is a Dutch security professional commonly referred to as Pete. RTL Boulevard reported in November 2015 that he had previously worked as Lady Gaga’s bodyguard and had recently become Adele’s bodyguard. A 2023 photo feature by Corriere della Sera also identified him in connection with Gaga and noted his work with Adele.
Those reports establish past and dated associations, not his present employment. The latest reviewed report, from UOL on 29 April 2025, said he was with Gaga in Rio. It does not establish whether he works for her now.
Why did he become known as Adele’s “hot bodyguard”?
In late November 2015, media coverage and fans focused on Van der Veen’s appearance after he was noticed working with Adele. RTL Boulevard’s headline asked who Adele’s newly noticed bodyguard Pete was, and the outlet reported his earlier work with Gaga. The “hot bodyguard” label was a fan-and-media framing, not a neutral job description or a phrase he used for himself.

The attention also made him a subject of coverage beyond his work. In a follow-up interview published by RTL Boulevard on 2 December 2015, he pushed back against being cast simply as a bodybuilder and said he had not chosen the spotlight.
What did Van der Veen say about the attention?
RTL Boulevard quoted him in Dutch: “Ik kies er niet voor om in de belangstelling te staan.” In English, this means: “I choose not to be in the spotlight.” The quote captures the tension in the story: public curiosity centered on his looks, while he wanted recognition to reflect the work behind his career.
