Public reporting places the couple together by 2022. TIME reported in June 2024 that Gates had been seen frequently with Hurd since September 2022. Town & Country says they appeared publicly together in 2022 and made their red-carpet debut in 2024. Those accounts describe public appearances, not the private start of their relationship.
