What is Marty McDonald known for?
McDonald is best known as the founder of Boss Women Media; a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga profile also identifies her as the organization’s CEO. The company’s work has centered on connecting and empowering women, particularly women of color, through media, events and partnerships.
Boss Women Media has used conferences, storytelling and collaborations with brands and organizations to reach its community. ESSENCE has reported examples including the Black Magic Reimagined business summit, a Sugarfina collaboration and multi-city tour, and a Founders’ Breakfast Masterclass with Amazon’s Black Business Accelerator.
How did Boss Women Media begin?
McDonald spent more than a decade working in corporate marketing, according to D Magazine. The publication reports that in 2016 she hosted a brunch at Neiman Marcus for 25 women to discuss career advancement and resources. That gathering grew into Boss Women Media.

The university’s November 5, 2025 profile says virtual gatherings reached more than 20,000 women during the pandemic and that later programming streamed to half a million households through Amazon Prime. These are source-reported historical figures, not a verified current audience count.
What are Elle Olivia and Audacious?

McDonald also founded Elle Olivia, a children’s brand inspired by her daughter and focused on representation and advocacy, according to Hachette Book Group. D Magazine’s February 23, 2022 interview describes it as an online children’s apparel and book brand.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga profile reports that Elle Olivia reached more than 400 Target stores within its first year; Hachette’s contributor page also cites more than 400 Target stores. Those accounts describe a reported retail milestone, not current store availability.
Audacious
Hachette lists Audacious as McDonald’s book. The university profile describes it as a guide to building a desired life and career. Current retail availability is not established by those biographical sources.
