Who is Flynn Earl Jones?
Flynn Earl Jones is James Earl Jones and Cecilia Hart’s only son. His parents married in 1982, and they remained together until Hart died in 2016.
Flynn’s birth year is not entirely consistent across published sources. A contemporaneous Washington Post profile from April 1983 said that James Earl Jones and Cecilia Hart had married the previous year and that their son had arrived four months earlier, which points to late 1982. Later biographical and obituary accounts commonly list Flynn’s birth year as 1983. Because of that discrepancy, it is more accurate to describe him as having been born in late 1982 or 1983 rather than give an exact date as settled fact.

His parents: James Earl Jones and Cecilia Hart
James Earl Jones was one of the most respected performers of his generation. His career encompassed Shakespearean theater, Broadway, film, television, and voice work. His deep, distinctive voice made him especially recognizable to audiences who knew him as Darth Vader in the Star Wars films or Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King.
Cecilia Hart was an actress whose television and stage work included appearances in productions such as Law & Order and Paris. She and Jones married in 1982 and had one child, Flynn.
James Earl Jones died on September 9, 2024, at age 93. His agent confirmed the death, although major reports did not disclose a cause. Obituaries from outlets including The Washington Post, The Guardian, and ABC News identified Flynn as his surviving son.

Readers interested in his work can browse audiobooks narrated by Flynn Earl Jones, including titles such as Bright Boulevards, Bold Dreams and Lions of the Sky. Availability, editions, and narrator credits can change, so each title should be checked individually.
It is also important not to assume that Flynn narrates every title appearing under a search result or catalog page. Some productions list multiple narrators or performers, meaning that Flynn may be part of an ensemble rather than the sole voice. Publicly indexed catalog information shows credits dating from at least 2018 through 2022, but those release dates should not be treated as a complete chronology of his career.

That account is useful as a snapshot of their relationship at the time, but it does not establish that Flynn continued in the same role later. Likewise, a 1983 Washington Post interview captured James Earl Jones speaking warmly about becoming a father and about his affection for his son. Those interviews provide family context, not reliable evidence about Flynn’s current work or private life.
What is known about Flynn’s private life?
Very little verified information about Flynn’s personal life is publicly established. Reliable sources reviewed for this profile do not confirm his current marital status, whether he has children, his education, his residence, or his net worth. Celebrity and search-result websites sometimes repeat such details without identifying a dependable source.
Rank #4
That limited public record appears consistent with someone who has maintained a lower profile than his famous father. Flynn should not be described as seeking the same level of public attention, and unverified claims about his family or finances should be treated cautiously.
Where to learn more about James Earl Jones
For readers interested in the family background and James Earl Jones’s own account of his life, James Earl Jones: Voices and Silences, written by Jones with Penelope Niven, is a relevant starting point. The book’s 1993 Scribner edition presents biographical material about the actor and his career. Edition details and availability should be verified before purchase.
Flynn Earl Jones and his father’s legacy
Flynn Earl Jones is best understood not simply as “James Earl Jones’s son,” but as a professional narrator whose work occupies a different part of the performance world. His father’s voice became one of the most recognizable in cinema, while Flynn’s documented credits place him primarily behind audiobook productions.
The public record supports three clear conclusions: Flynn is James Earl Jones and Cecilia Hart’s only child; his birth year is reported as either late 1982 or 1983; and he has built a documented career in audiobook narration. Beyond those facts, claims about his current personal circumstances should not be presented as confirmed unless supported by stronger, direct reporting.
