Strickland is connected to Imperium, the secret operation pursuing Venom and seeking to capture symbiotes.
Who is Rex Strickland?
Strickland runs Imperium, according to Netflix Tudum’s cast guide. In the film’s story, the operation has a military side and a scientific wing led by Dr. Payne. Ejiofor described Strickland as responsible for the military operation at the secret facility, with a different approach from Payne’s scientific team. In a 2024 interview with ComicBook.com, he discussed the tension between the two wings and their differing responses to alien life forms. TIME describes Strickland’s forces pursuing Venom for Imperium.
Is he playing Baron Mordo again?
No. Ejiofor played Baron Mordo in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, but Rex Strickland is a separate character in Sony’s Venom film. In the ComicBook.com interview, Ejiofor called Strickland “just such a different character” and described him as grounded in reality and focused on the responsibilities of running the facility’s military operation.
Why do sources use different ranks for Strickland?
Some coverage calls him General Strickland, while TIME’s October 25, 2024 explainer calls him Commander Rex Strickland. Netflix Tudum’s cast guide uses simply “Rex Strickland.” The character’s identity is consistent, but the cited sources do not agree on a rank, so “Rex Strickland” is the clearest neutral name.
