The film presents her as a powerful telepath whose menace is sharpened by an unexpectedly calm manner—and whose story, as Corrin approached it, is more than a simple villain label.
Who is Cassandra Nova?
Cassandra Nova is a Marvel Comics character introduced to the film audience in Deadpool & Wolverine. TIME identifies her as Charles Xavier’s twin sister, and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) describes her as Xavier’s evil twin and the authority in the Void. Emma Corrin plays her in the film. TIME’s April 22, 2024 trailer-era overview provides a starting point for the character’s comics connection, though it is not an exhaustive account of her comic-book history.
What are Cassandra Nova’s powers?
Telepathy is central to how Corrin understood Cassandra’s abilities. In a ComingSoon interview published July 25, 2024, Corrin said Cassandra performs her “immense power” with “a lot of nonchalance.” That contrast—substantial mental power delivered without visible strain—helps define the character’s screen presence.
ILM visual-effects supervisor Vincent Papaix described Cassandra as able to control things with her mind. Rather than make that control look like an overt magical effect, the team used subtle distortion to suggest its impact on people. Papaix said the goal was to keep the effect restrained so it would not overpower the power itself. His account appears in ILM’s December 20, 2024 interview.

How did Emma Corrin shape the film’s version?
Corrin said the comics origin informed their preparation, but conversations with director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds helped shape a Cassandra suited to the film’s tone. In a DiscussingFilm interview published July 28, 2024, Corrin described looking beyond the label of “villain” to find the character’s vulnerability and understand her actions in relation to her brother.
“The label ‘villain’ is quite a big one, and for me, it was a matter of throwing that to the side and trying to figure out how to empathize with this character and find her vulnerability.”

That approach gives the film’s Cassandra more than a threatening role in the plot: it frames her as a character whose family connection and perspective matter to how she is played. Corrin’s comments explain their performance choices; they do not amount to a detailed issue-by-issue comparison with the comics.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why does Cassandra feel different on screen?
The film’s portrayal hinges on a useful contrast: Cassandra’s power is mental, but its consequences are made visible through the reactions and distortion around her. Corrin emphasized the internal quality and nonchalant performance of telepathy; Papaix described a visual-effects approach designed to stay subtle. Together, those choices let the audience register her influence without turning every use of it into a loud spectacle.
