The couple married privately in New Orleans on April 1, 2022, a date Taylor-Joy has given publicly in her own words. A later celebration in Venice in October 2023 was widely reported as their wedding at the time, which is why older coverage and some reference sites give different years.
Who is Malcolm McRae?
Vogue’s May 2025 profile describes McRae as a musician and actor. It says he grew up in the Birmingham area of Alabama and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue music. Vogue’s 2025 profile and ELLE’s May 2024 interview with Taylor-Joy both identify him as her husband, and neither source describes any other marriage for either of them.

Music with in more*
McRae sings and plays guitar and piano in in more*, a duo with Kane Ritchotte. According to Vogue, the duo released the EPs 1/2 in 2020 and 2/2 in September 2021, signed with Warner Records, and opened for Haim and Grouplove. Vogue also reports that McRae and Ritchotte worked as music coaches on the Daisy Jones & The Six television adaptation and appeared in it as the fictional band the Winters.
Acting and songwriting
Beyond the Winters, McRae’s screen work is limited to the sources above, so his acting record is best described as a supporting role in one major series rather than a long filmography. In a 2023 Man About Town interview quoted by Vogue, he described his approach to writing and performing:

“I’m more invested in pushing the boundaries of identity in the songs I am writing, and I try to write from the perspective of a character and adopt that character’s voice when I’m laying down the vocals for the recording. At the moment, I think it’s really interesting to try and be someone I’m not when I’m singing. I feel more comfortable being that way, because in day-to-day life I can only be Malcolm.”
Vogue also reports that McRae wrote “Really Want to See You Again” for Taylor-Joy two days after meeting her. That account comes from McRae’s own social media post as relayed by Vogue, so it is his claim rather than independently verified reporting.

Why the wedding year looks inconsistent
Two different events have been reported as a wedding. The earlier one, in New Orleans, is the legal marriage date given by the couple. The October 2023 Venice event was a celebration, and press coverage at the time treated it as the wedding. British Vogue also cites reporting of about 150 guests at Venice; that figure is contemporaneous press reporting, not a confirmed guest count.

That conflicts with Taylor-Joy’s first-person anniversary statement and with the April 2024 confirmation, so the Venice date should be read as a celebration rather than the date of the marriage.

Most of what is known comes from magazine reporting: two Vogue pieces, a British Vogue wedding feature, ELLE’s interview and a Biography.com profile. No marriage certificate or public record is cited in that coverage. The April 1, 2022 date therefore rests on Taylor-Joy’s public statement as reported by British Vogue. It is consistent across the 2024 and 2025 coverage, but it has not been checked against an official record.
The couple’s relationship is also documented largely through their own social media posts and interviews. Where McRae or Taylor-Joy’s own statements are the source, the article reports them as statements rather than independently confirmed facts.
