The youngest contestant still in the running at the Top 24 stage of American Idol Season 23 was Mattie Pruitt, who was 15 years old when TVLine reported the season’s Top 24 results in April 2025. The “youngest” label is specific to that season and that point in the competition. It is not an all-time record for the show.
Who Mattie Pruitt is in this context
Pruitt was a contestant on American Idol Season 23. Entertainment coverage of the season’s Top 24 results listed her age as 15. That figure comes from press reporting on the competition, not from an official biography, so it reflects her age as stated at that time in April 2025 rather than a verified birth record.

What “youngest” actually means here
TVLine described Pruitt as the youngest of the contestants remaining at the Top 24 stage of Season 23. That is the full scope of the claim. It describes one season and one checkpoint in the competition. It does not say she was the youngest contestant in American Idol history, and it does not say she was the youngest to reach any later round.
Readers searching the title question often assume the label is a show-wide record. It is not established as one by the coverage available, so it should be read as a season-specific observation.

The Top 24 performance
According to the same TVLine coverage, Pruitt performed James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” in the relevant round and received immunity. Immunity at this stage protected her from elimination in the round that followed, which is why the performance is the detail most often tied to her season run.
The same outlet’s wording about the performance was its own editorial description. Treat that characterization as the reviewer’s opinion, not a statement from Pruitt, a judge, or the show.

What is and is not established
- Established by entertainment coverage: Pruitt’s age as 15 during the Season 23 Top 24 coverage, the “youngest remaining contestant” description at that stage, and the James Brown performance and immunity.
- Not established: an all-time American Idol record, her birthdate or birthplace, family background, or her current status in the music industry.
- Secondary and unconfirmed: a later placement in the Top 7 appears in a secondary reference, but it has not been confirmed against an official episode record, so it should not be treated as settled.
Where to check the season
For the current availability of Season 23 episodes, check the season’s listing in the streaming service or broadcaster catalog at the time you are viewing. Press material from the show’s publisher, ABC, refers to next-day streaming for 2026 programming, but that statement does not confirm that Season 23 is currently available on any particular service.

Mattie Pruitt was 15 years old during the Season 23 Top 24 stage of American Idol and was described by TVLine as the youngest contestant remaining at that point. The claim is accurate as a season-specific description and should not be stretched into a record for the whole series.
