Amara is a member of Piltover’s merchant guild who is secretly aligned with the Black Rose. She confronts Ambessa Medarda about the Black Rose’s knowledge of her activities in Piltover; Ambessa kills her, then uses Amara’s death to argue for martial law.
Amara’s public role and secret allegiance
Amara is introduced as a Piltover merchant-guild member. In private, she makes clear she is not speaking for the guild: she has come to settle a debt and warns Ambessa, “We know what you’re chasing in Piltover.” The exchange reveals that Amara is connected to the Black Rose and that the group is tracking Ambessa’s actions in the city. Season 2, Episode 3 transcript records the exchange, while TechRadar’s cast guide describes her as a Black Rose assassin.
“Assassin” is the cast guide’s characterization, rather than a formal title stated in the quoted exchange. The episode establishes her affiliation and shows her confronting Ambessa, but the transcript alone does not establish visual details beyond its text.
What happens to Amara?
Ambessa kills Amara after their meeting. She later tells Piltover’s council that Amara died during an attack and cites the incident as part of her case for martial law and expanded authority. Amara’s death therefore serves not only as a consequence of her confrontation with Ambessa, but also as a political tool in Ambessa’s bid for control. The episode transcript records the sequence; the council scene supplies the political context.

Is Amara the Black Rose sorceress who confronts Mel?
The available official material does not identify Amara as the Black Rose sorceress who later confronts Mel. Netflix’s production feature describes the Episode 8 sorceress as Minnie Driver’s character, while its note about Amara concerns character-design work on Amara and Elora. These references distinguish the characters rather than establishing that they are the same person. Netflix’s production feature provides the sorceress identification and production context; it does not give Amara a full biography or power set.

Netflix production designer Arnaud-Loris Baudry said: “We worked at the same time on Episodes 3 and 5 hand in hand with the character designers for Amara and Elora.” That confirms Amara was part of the production’s character-design work, but it does not add a separate account of her history or confirm another identity for her. Netflix Tudum’s production feature contains the statement.
