Selena Gomez plays Mabel Mora, and her crime-solving partners are the same two members of the podcast trio who have investigated alongside her since the start of the series: Charles-Haden Savage, played by Steve Martin, and Oliver Putnam, played by Martin Short. In Season 4 the three work together on the death of Sazz Pataki, Charles’s stunt double and close friend. Season 4 plot details follow, so spoiler warning applies from here on.
The core investigating trio
Three people drive the investigation. Guest stars and supporting characters add pressure, leads and complications, but they do not replace the trio.
Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez)
Mabel is the youngest of the podcasting partners and the person who keeps the case moving from one scene to the next. Season 4 frames the mystery around her two long-running collaborators, so her role is best understood as the investigator who keeps asking the questions the other two would rather avoid.
Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin)
Charles is central to the season’s premise because the murder directly concerns his stunt double and friend, Sazz Pataki. The investigators’ first question is whether Sazz was the intended target or whether the shooter meant to kill Charles. That uncertainty is what sends the trio in multiple directions.

Oliver Putnam (Martin Short)
Oliver is Mabel’s other core partner. Official season descriptions place him alongside Mabel and Charles as the people pursuing the case, not as a secondary figure in a larger ensemble.

The Hollywood storyline
A studio prepares a film adaptation of the trio’s podcast, and the investigators travel to Los Angeles to deal with it. The guest stars named in the Disney+ UK announcement appear in this strand. They broaden the season’s plot and give the trio new people to question, but Mabel, Charles and Oliver remain the people doing the detective work.
Returning Arconia figures and police
The investigation returns to the Arconia and its West Tower residents, who are part of the case rather than a separate subplot. Detective Donna Williams, played by Da’Vine Joy Randolph according to the Apple TV listing, is a police presence that the trio must work around. Jan returns at a crucial point to help save the trio, according to Hulu’s recap.

How the season is set up
Season 4 opens after the events of Season 3 involving Sazz. The trio’s central question is whether the bullet was meant for Sazz or for Charles. Their search leads them to Los Angeles, where the podcast film is in production, and then back to the Arconia, where the West Tower residents become part of the case. The season is built so that the Hollywood plot and the building’s residents keep feeding into one investigation.

Hulu’s guide recap, published September 8, 2025, names Marshall, who is secretly Rex Bailey, as Sazz’s murderer. According to that recap, he killed Sazz to hide the screenplay he had stolen. Jan’s return is part of how the trio is saved at the end of the arc.

Season 4 is available on Hulu and Disney+. Availability depends on territory and catalog changes, so check the current listing in your region before watching. The Disney+ UK announcement dated July 23, 2024 is the source for the season setup and guest-star names. The Hulu guide recap dated September 8, 2025 is the source for the ending. The Apple TV catalog listing is the source for character and cast associations, and its details may differ by territory.
