Mendes and Gosling have kept much of their family life private, so the public timeline is limited and does not establish every detail of their relationship.
Eva Mendes’s publicly reported relationships
| Partner | Publicly reported timeline | What is established—and what is not |
|---|---|---|
| George Augusto | Reported as Mendes’s long-term boyfriend before the pair split around 2010–2011. | Contemporary accounts described a relationship lasting roughly eight years or nearly a decade, but they do not agree on the precise end date. NDTV and Marie Claire reported on the relationship and its timing. |
| Ryan Gosling | They met while filming The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011 and were reported to have begun dating that year. | Their public timeline includes sightings, a joint red-carpet appearance in 2012, and later family milestones. Recent reports describe them as together, but their private life remains deliberately guarded. See Biography.com and ELLE’s timeline. |
George Augusto: a long-term relationship before 2011
Mendes was described in 2011 coverage as being in a long-term relationship with filmmaker George Augusto. NDTV reported that they had been dating for nearly a decade; Marie Claire later characterized the relationship as eight years and placed the split in 2010. Other reporting described a more recent breakup, so the most accurate summary is that they separated around 2010–2011, rather than assigning a definitive date.
Ryan Gosling: from meeting on set to a private family life
How their relationship began
Mendes and Gosling met while filming the 2011 drama The Place Beyond the Pines. Reports of dating and public sightings followed later that year. They made a joint red-carpet appearance at the film’s Toronto premiere in 2012, giving the public a rare early glimpse of their relationship.
Children and later public appearances
Reports say Mendes and Gosling welcomed daughters in 2014 and 2016. In March 2026, Mendes joined Gosling on The Tonight Show for a birthday surprise; ELLE described it as their first official public appearance together in more than a decade. Its Aug. 31, 2026 timeline also describes their relationship as continuing. These public moments offer only a partial view: Mendes has said she keeps family life private.

Are Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling married?
Mendes has referred to Gosling as her “husband” in public remarks, but that wording does not establish a wedding date. In 2022, when asked about marriage speculation, she replied, “But who says we weren’t already? I like to keep it all mysterious. I’m a very mysterious woman.” The response was deliberately ambiguous, not a dated confirmation of a ceremony. The Indian Express reported her remarks, and ELLE notes that later discussion of a wrist tattoo has also prompted marriage speculation.

Mendes has explicitly drawn a boundary around what she shares about Gosling and their family. In a 2020 social-media response reproduced by Us Weekly, she said: “I don’t talk about Ryan and all the wonderful things he does as a father because I keep that part private.” That privacy is why a responsible account sticks to well-reported relationships and public milestones instead of treating rumors about other celebrities as established partners. Us Weekly’s timeline reproduces the statement.
