Amber Heard’s publicly reported partners are artist Tasya van Ree, actor Johnny Depp (her former husband), entrepreneur Elon Musk, and cinematographer Bianca Butti. The four relationships are documented with very different levels of certainty, so the details matter as much as the names.
Heard’s publicly reported partners at a glance
| Partner | Relationship as reported | Reported period | Source type | Certainty of the dating label |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tasya van Ree | Artist; Heard’s partner when she met Depp during filming | Start and end dates not established | Heard’s witness statement dated 15 December 2019; English High Court judgment | High that they were a couple at that time; exact dates unknown |
| Johnny Depp | Couple who later married; now former spouses | Relationship began during filming; marriage ended in divorce | Court record and later reporting | High |
| Elon Musk | Reported to have dated | Reported as on and off, 2016 to 2018 (The Independent); accounts differ | Testimony at the 2022 Virginia trial; media reporting | Moderate; start, end and overlap with Depp are disputed across accounts |
| Bianca Butti | Cinematographer; latest publicly reported relationship in the reporting available | 2020 to 2021 (The Independent) | Media reporting | Moderate; reflects reporting, not current status |
Tasya van Ree
Van Ree is an artist. Heard’s witness statement dated 15 December 2019 says she was in a relationship with van Ree when she met Depp during filming. The English High Court judgment in Depp’s libel case against News Group Newspapers likewise describes van Ree as Heard’s partner at that time. Neither the court material nor the reporting that cites it establishes when the relationship began or ended, so any specific start or end date for Heard and van Ree should be treated as unverified.
Johnny Depp
Heard and Depp became a couple during their work together, and they later married. Heard’s statement describes Depp pursuing her romantically during filming while she was still with van Ree. Their marriage ended in divorce, so the accurate label is former spouses.
The dating history is separate from the litigation. Depp and Heard sued each other over public statements about abuse allegations, and the court findings in those cases are a different subject from who dated whom. This article does not restate those findings.

Elon Musk
Musk is the most contested entry in Heard’s dating history. At the 2022 defamation trial in Virginia between Depp and Heard, agent Christian Carino testified that Heard had “spent time” with Musk while she was trying to revive her relationship with Depp in 2016. The Guardian reported that Carino said he did not know whether they were dating.
The Independent describes Heard and Musk as believed to have dated on and off from 2016 to 2018. That is the most specific date range in the reporting, but it is a press account, not a settled chronology. Other accounts from the trial described different claims about when the relationship started and whether it overlapped with Heard’s relationship with Depp. Readers should treat the 2016 to 2018 window as attributed reporting and the overlap question as unresolved.

Bianca Butti
Butti is a cinematographer. The Independent identifies her as Heard’s latest publicly reported relationship and gives 2020 to 2021 as the period. This is the most recent relationship in the reporting available for this article. It does not establish Heard’s current private relationship status, and no later partner has been publicly confirmed in the sources examined.
How to read the record
- Court documents give the most reliable evidence that two people were in a relationship at a given time. Heard’s own witness statement and the English High Court judgment are the strongest sources for van Ree and for Depp.
- Sworn testimony is evidence of what a witness said, not proof of the relationship itself. Carino’s account of Musk is a good example: he described Heard spending time with Musk and said he did not know whether they were dating.
- Media reporting supplies most of the Musk and Butti dates. Treat these as attributed claims, and check which outlet and which date a figure comes from before repeating it.
Rumor and speculation about Heard’s private life appear often online. None of the reporting that establishes the four relationships above depends on it, and this article does not repeat it.
