Spoilers: No one dies in the aired 9-1-1: Lone Star series finale. Owen Strand appears to sacrifice himself during a nuclear emergency, but survives. Tommy Vega also survives. The phrase “everyone’s on the table” described pre-finale uncertainty—not what ultimately happens.
What happens to Owen and Tommy?
In “Homecoming,” the 126 responds to the danger of a nuclear incident at a research lab after an asteroid impact. Owen’s actions make it appear that he may die while trying to prevent a disaster, but the apparent sacrifice is a suspense moment: he survives. Tommy, whose condition had raised fears for her life, also survives the ending.
Post-finale coverage confirmed that no one dies in the episode. Executive producer Rashad Raisani explained that he did not want viewers to finish the series with a character’s death to dwell on; he said, “By the end of this series, everyone has healed in their own ways.” TheWrap’s post-finale report and TV Insider’s account describe the outcome.
Did Rob Lowe say Owen would die?
No. Lowe discussed an alternate ending he had pitched, not the ending that aired. His proposed version had Owen die after a heroic act, followed by a hospital scene in which others applaud him. That idea was not used. TVLine reported Lowe’s description of the pitch.

Before the finale, promotional language about a “casualty-strewn” ending and the suggestion that everyone was “on the table” heightened the uncertainty. Those previews did not confirm that a character would die; the aired episode resolves the question with the principal characters alive.
When did the series finale air?
FOX designated “Homecoming” as the series finale and scheduled it for February 3, 2025. Its official announcement teased Owen’s decision about his future and a greater threat amid Austin’s asteroid-crash aftermath. FOX’s episode announcement identifies the finale and its premise.
