NewCP’s own July 2020 launch post, however, is credited to Harout and signed “- wells”; it does not identify a founding team or explain how those names relate. The original Club Penguin was a separate game founded by Lane Merrifield, Dave Krysko, and Lance Priebe.
Who created New Club Penguin?
Club Penguin Armies identifies Jonas and Sahij as the founders of NewCP, describing Jonas as a former Club Penguin Online designer and co-owner. That is a secondary community-history account, not a founding announcement from NewCP itself. The names are public handles; the sources do not establish the founders’ full legal identities.
NewCP’s official July 8, 2020 launch post is bylined “Harout” and ends with “- wells.” It announces the game’s opening to everyone after a beta period, but does not list founders or explain whether Harout or “wells” is connected to Jonas or Sahij. The available sources therefore support a reported founder attribution, but do not resolve the difference between that attribution and the launch credits.
Is New Club Penguin the same as the original Club Penguin?
No. NewCP describes itself as a recreation or fan-made game and says it is not affiliated with Disney’s Club Penguin, The Walt Disney Company, or Disney Games. It is distinct from the original Club Penguin, whose founders were Lane Merrifield, Dave Krysko, and Lance Priebe, as identified by Disney’s August 1, 2007 acquisition announcement and D23.

How NewCP developed
From public launch to the end of Flash
NewCP opened to the public on July 8, 2020, after a beta period. In a December 31, 2020 post, its team said the game had been made completely through Flash and discussed a downloadable client alongside a planned HTML5 client as Flash support ended.
The HTML5 chapter
NewCP’s February 2026 post describes a browser-based HTML5 version, with desktop and mobile access, as part of a fresh start. Club Penguin Armies reported that the HTML5 version opened publicly on February 14, 2026; that specific date is community reporting. NewCP’s official blog index listed a post dated September 15, 2026, indicating recent publishing at that point, not guaranteeing uninterrupted game access or availability of every feature.

What the original Club Penguin’s history adds
The original game launched in October 2005. Disney announced its acquisition on August 1, 2007, saying the company would retain Club Penguin’s Kelowna base and that its three founders would join Disney and remain the unit’s senior management team. At the time of that announcement, Disney reported more than 700,000 paid subscribers and more than 12 million activated users for the original game. Those are historical 2007 figures for the Disney-era original—not NewCP and not current user counts.
In the acquisition announcement, Lane Merrifield said: “We have been actively searching for an organization that not only shares our values and concerns for children, but also has the ability and desire to help us bring Club Penguin to more children throughout the world.”
