That conditional suggestion came from entertainment insider Jeff Sneider in April 2023. Later reports said Marvel executives discussed both recasting Kang and pivoting to another villain, but the sources cited here do not establish a final decision about the character’s MCU future.
Was Damson Idris confirmed as Jonathan Majors’ replacement?
No. On The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider said he had heard Marvel might look at “someone like Damson Idris” if Majors were removed as Kang. BGR’s April 17, 2023 report emphasized that the comparison did not mean Idris was the next Kang and that Marvel had not confirmed a recast. BGR’s report attributes the suggestion to Sneider; it is not a statement from Marvel.
ScreenGeek reproduced the remark that same day and appended an update citing conflicting reporting from Deadline: there had been no conversations about replacing Majors. What options were later reported?
In October 2023, Variety reported that Marvel executives had discussed backup plans amid uncertainty around Majors. The reported possibilities included recasting Kang and changing direction toward another adversary, with Doctor Doom given as an example. What happened after Jonathan Majors’ conviction?
The Associated Press reported on January 8, 2024, that Marvel and Disney had dropped Majors from upcoming projects after he was found guilty of one misdemeanor assault charge and one harassment violation. AP also reported that Disney declined to comment on whether Marvel would recast Kang or pivot the story. The AP report therefore confirms his departure from upcoming projects, but not what Marvel ultimately planned for Kang.
Can a Kang comic explain the MCU casting rumor?
No. Marvel’s official catalog lists Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as a trade paperback published November 6, 2002. It collects Avengers (1998) #41–55 and Avengers Annual 2001, and offers a comic-book Kang story for readers who want one. It is not a source about MCU casting or the reported deliberations.
