The answer depends on the measure: Guinness World Records credits Ray Romano with the highest documented per-episode fee cited here, while Forbes lists estimate annual earnings over defined periods and may include income beyond acting. Those figures cannot be combined into a defensible top-15 order.
Highest TV actor pay per episode: Ray Romano
Guinness World Records names Ray Romano the highest-paid TV actor per episode, reporting $1.94 million per episode for the ninth and final series of Everybody Loves Raymond. That series aired in the United States from September 20, 2004, to May 16, 2005. The record is for a per-episode fee in a specific series; it does not rank actors by annual or lifetime television income. Guinness World Records.

Other notable television pay records
Friends: approximately $1 million per episode
For the final series of Friends, which ended in May 2004, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox reportedly earned approximately $1 million each per episode, according to Guinness World Records. Guinness also notes that the cast received a percentage of rerun revenue. That participation is separate from the reported episode fee, and the source does not establish a comparable total career-income figure for the three actors. Guinness World Records.
The Big Bang Theory: a cast-level record
Guinness World Records identified The Big Bang Theory stars as the highest-paid television cast as of January 2017. It reported that the combined earnings of five actors pushed the show’s wage bill beyond $100 million. This is a combined cast-pay comparison, not a claim that any one actor topped an all-time individual ranking. Guinness World Records.

Annual earnings lists measure something different
Forbes’ annual highest-paid television lists cover particular periods and can include income streams beyond an actor’s television salary. Their figures are estimates for the period named, not per-episode rates or cumulative career totals.
| Period or list | Reported figure or finding | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Forbes 2013 list | Sofia Vergara was named the highest-paid TV actor; Ashton Kutcher was the highest-paid male TV actor. | The report discusses Vergara’s endorsements and licensing alongside television work, so her total should not be treated as her Modern Family salary. Forbes. |
| Forbes 2015 list | 11 of the 15 stars on the list came from sitcoms. | A finding about that year’s list only, not a general rule about television pay. Forbes. |
| Forbes 2016 list, as reported by TIME | Sofia Vergara earned nearly $43 million over the past year. | An annual earnings estimate; TIME identifies endorsements and licensing as important sources. It is not a per-episode wage. TIME. |
| Forbes 2018 list, as reported by TIME | Jim Parsons: $26.5 million; Johnny Galecki: $25 million. | Period-specific annual earnings estimates. Parsons’ total also reflected endorsements and executive-producer work on Young Sheldon. TIME. |
Dwayne Johnson’s unusually broad annual-earnings record
Guinness World Records lists Dwayne Johnson’s estimated $270 million in earnings for the year ending December 31, 2021, as the record for highest annual earnings for an actor in a current series (male), citing Forbes’ 2022 Highest-Paid Entertainers list. The category is annual earnings for an actor in a current series—not television acting salary or pay per episode. Guinness World Records.

Why an official all-time top 15 cannot be established
The records above compare unlike things: a fee for each episode, an estimated year’s earnings, cast-wide payroll and rerun participation. Annual lists may include endorsements, licensing or producing, while per-episode records describe a narrower compensation measure. The available sources do not provide a consistent set of figures for 15 actors using one definition, time period and accounting method, so ordering them together would imply a comparison the evidence does not support.
- Per-episode pay identifies a rate tied to a specific series and period.
- Annual earnings cover a specified year or reporting period and may combine several income sources.
- Cast earnings aggregate compensation across multiple performers.
- Rerun participation is distinct from an episode fee and may continue after the original broadcast.
None of these figures establishes total career earnings. Calculating a lifetime television total would require consistent contract data, episode counts and treatment of bonuses, residuals and the timing of payments—information these records do not supply.
