Who is Joan Vassos?
ABC’s biography describes Joan Vassos as a 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, and as the first Golden Bachelorette. ABC also says she left the inaugural The Golden Bachelor season after a medical concern involving her daughter and that she had been widowed after 32 years of marriage.

How this season fits the Golden franchise
ABC’s premiere announcement framed the season as the franchise’s first time presenting 24 mature men competing for a relationship with one Golden Bachelorette. In its August 2024 cast release, ABC said more than 43 million viewers had watched the debut of The Golden Bachelor across platforms; that figure refers to the earlier show, not to The Golden Bachelorette.
