The “Bronx Beat” ladies are Betty Caruso and Jodi Dietz, fictional hosts of a recurring Saturday Night Live mock talk show. Amy Poehler plays Betty, and Maya Rudolph plays Jodi. The sketch puts their casual chatter, everyday complaints and conversations with guests at the center of the joke.
Who are Betty and Jodi?
Betty Caruso and Jodi Dietz are the two hosts of “Bronx Beat.” They are played by Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, respectively. The title refers to an SNL sketch—not a real talk show or a music group.
What happens in a “Bronx Beat” sketch?
The sketch uses the format of a talk show, but its focus is the hosts’ banter. Betty and Jodi greet one another, chat about daily life and air comic grievances about responsibilities and family. Guests may join the conversation, while the hosts keep riffing and complaining. The exact balance varies by installment; these elements are visible in the January 2007 and February 2007 transcripts.
Which SNL episodes feature the sketch?
These documented appearances give a sense of the sketch’s history, but they are not a complete episode list.
| Episode | What the listing or transcript establishes |
|---|---|
| January 13, 2007 — Jake Gyllenhaal, season 32, episode 10 | A fan-maintained transcript records a “Bronx Beat” appearance with Poehler and Rudolph. |
| February 10, 2007 — Forest Whitaker, season 32, episode 13 | A fan-maintained transcript records another appearance, including guest interaction. |
| September 25, 2010 — Amy Poehler, season 36, episode 1 | Peacock and Apple TV list “Bronx Beat” among the episode’s sketches. |
In February 2025, Poehler and Rudolph brought the mock talk show back for the SNL 50th anniversary special, according to the Associated Press. Mike Myers appeared as Linda Richman, his Streisand-loving character. That was an anniversary revival, not evidence that “Bronx Beat” returned as a regular feature.
Why did Maya Rudolph find the characters easy to return to?
In a 2015 Glamour conversation, Rudolph said, “Sometimes I’ll find myself going back into the Bronx Beat ladies that I did with Amy.” She added, “I feel like those are the character that I fall into the most easily,” and said, “I could talk about any topic as those ladies.” Her comments describe a character dynamic she could readily revisit; they do not establish how often the sketch appeared.
