King Charles III has three younger siblings: Anne, the Princess Royal; Andrew Mountbatten Windsor; and Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh. They are the four children of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, in birth order: Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward.
Who are King Charles III’s siblings?
Charles was born in 1948, followed by Anne in 1950, Andrew in 1960 and Edward in 1964, according to the Royal Family’s family-life chronology. The three siblings have different public roles and, in Andrew’s case, a title status that changed in 2025.
| Sibling | Birth | Current title or public name | Key public role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anne | 15 August 1950 | The Princess Royal | Undertakes public engagements and official duties. |
| Andrew | 1960 | Andrew Mountbatten Windsor | His princely dignity and Royal Highness style were removed by Letters Patent in 2025. |
| Edward | 10 March 1964 | The Duke of Edinburgh | Represents the King at events and attends state and ceremonial occasions. |
Anne, the Princess Royal
Anne is the second child and only daughter of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Born on 15 August 1950, she received the title Princess Royal from her mother in June 1987. The title is not a description of her place in the succession; it is a distinction granted by the monarch.
Anne began undertaking public engagements in 1969 and has carried out a wide range of official duties. She also competed in equestrian events at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games and later held Olympic roles, including President of the British Olympic Association. The Royal Family’s Princess Royal biography provides further detail on her public work.

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor: why he is no longer a prince
Andrew is Charles’s brother, but he is no longer entitled to the style “Royal Highness” or the titular dignity of “Prince.” Letters Patent dated 3 November 2025 declared that change; the House of Commons Library reproduces the instrument in its briefing on the removal of titles and honours.
That formal change followed Andrew’s statement, published by the Royal Family on 17 October 2025, that “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.” The statement records his position; the later Letters Patent is the formal basis for the change to his princely dignity. The Royal Family’s statement and the College of Arms entry on royal styles and titles provide additional context.

His removal from the title Prince should not be confused with removal from the line of succession: the sources cited here establish the title change, not a change to succession.
Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh
Edward, the youngest of the siblings, was born on 10 March 1964. On his birthday in 2023, King Charles conferred the Dukedom of Edinburgh on him. Edward represents the King at events in the UK and abroad and attends state and ceremonial occasions. The Royal Family’s Duke of Edinburgh biography describes his work.

Anne and Edward are among the current Counsellors of State. The Royal Family explains that Counsellors of State may carry out most of the King’s official duties if he is temporarily unable to do so, but says that in practice only working members of the Royal Family are called upon. Their inclusion on the list does not by itself mean that either has exercised those functions. See the Royal Family’s Counsellors of State page.
