Julie Andrews’s three daughters are Emma Walton Hamilton, Amelia, and Joanna. Emma is Andrews’s daughter with her first husband, Tony Walton; Andrews and her second husband, Blake Edwards, adopted Amelia and Joanna. The family Andrews and Edwards shared was larger: it also included Edwards’s children Jennifer and Geoffrey.
Who are Julie Andrews’s three daughters?
- Emma Walton Hamilton is Andrews’s daughter with Tony Walton, a theater and set designer.
- Amelia and Joanna are the daughters Andrews and filmmaker Blake Edwards adopted together.
PBS NewsHour’s 2019 interview distinguishes Emma from Amelia and Joanna and identifies Jennifer and Geoffrey as Edwards’s children. The Julie Andrews Collection biography describes Andrews and Edwards as having five children in their blended family. Those five are not five daughters of Andrews: her three daughters are Emma, Amelia, and Joanna.
Emma Walton Hamilton: a public creative career
Emma Walton Hamilton is an author, editor, educator, producer, performer, and writing coach, according to her official biography. She has collaborated with Andrews on books and on the Julie’s Library story-time podcast. Their published work includes Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years, identified by the Julie Andrews Collection biography as a memoir co-written by mother and daughter.
That collaboration is a useful window into Emma and Andrews’s shared creative work, not a biography of all three sisters. The sources provide much more public career detail about Emma than about Amelia or Joanna; that difference in available information does not establish a difference in their importance to the family.

Amelia and Joanna: Andrews and Edwards’s adopted daughters
PBS NewsHour’s 2019 interview transcript identifies Amelia and Joanna as the two daughters Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards adopted. The reviewed biographical sources establish their family relationship, but do not provide comparable public profiles. Accordingly, details such as their birth dates, adoption circumstances, careers, or present-day activities cannot be stated here as established facts.
How the blended family fits together
Andrews had Emma with Tony Walton. In her marriage to Edwards, the family also included his children Jennifer and Geoffrey, as well as the two daughters he and Andrews adopted, Amelia and Joanna. This distinction explains why accounts may refer to five children in Andrews and Edwards’s household while naming only three daughters as Andrews’s own.

Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years offers a published example of Emma and Andrews working together. It is their shared memoir, not a dedicated account of Amelia and Joanna or a full history of all three daughters. In an Associated Press report published February 6, 2023, Andrews and Walton Hamilton said: “For us, it’s family, community, nature, and the arts that provide true beauty and meaning.” The statement is attributed to the pair, not to either daughter individually.
