Jack Black’s parents were Judith Love Cohen, an aerospace engineer and author, and Thomas William Black, who is also described as an aerospace engineer. Cohen’s career included work on major aerospace programs, including Apollo. A biographical account says his parents divorced when he was 10 and that he lived mainly with his father while visiting his mother frequently.

Who are Jack Black’s parents?

Jack Black’s mother was Judith Love Cohen, an aerospace engineer who later wrote children’s books. His father was Thomas William Black. A profile by the Freedom From Religion Foundation describes both parents as aerospace engineers, though the available biographical accounts provide much more detail about Cohen’s career than his father’s.

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum also features a conversation with Jack Black and his brother Neil Siegal about their mother, her engineering career, and her later work as an author. Read the Smithsonian conversation.

What did Jack Black’s mom do?

Judith Love Cohen was an aerospace engineer and author. A University of Cincinnati educational biography describes her work on the Apollo program, the Minuteman missile, the Hubble Space Telescope science ground station, and the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite. These are the projects identified in that account; it does not provide a full chronology of her career.

Cohen also became a children’s book author. The Smithsonian’s conversation with her sons discusses both her engineering work and her later publishing career.

Did Jack Black’s mother work on Apollo 13?

Cohen’s work was connected to the Apollo program, and her son Neil Siegel’s recollection, reproduced in the University of Cincinnati biography, links her contribution to the Apollo 13 return. He identifies the Abort Guidance System she helped design as part of the story of how the astronauts returned safely.

That account describes a team contribution, not an achievement by Cohen alone. It is more accurate to say that she helped design a system used in the Apollo program than to say she personally brought Apollo 13 home. See the University of Cincinnati biography.

Was Jack Black’s dad an engineer?

Thomas William Black is described as an aerospace engineer in the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s biographical profile of Jack. That account does not supply a comparable project history, employer list, or detailed career chronology for him, so more specific claims about his work are not established here. Read the FFRF profile.

What is known about Jack Black’s relationship with his parents?

A secondary account attributes to Jack a recollection that both parents supported his artistic interests and attended his school plays. The FFRF profile says the remark came from a 2011 Guardian interview, but the original interview wording is not established here, so the anecdote should be treated as reported rather than as a verified direct quotation.
