William was associated with a trucking company. Biography.com describes him as its owner, while accounts of Jane’s work vary: Biography.com calls her a family counselor, and ABC News describes her as a former elementary school teacher. It is safest to say that accounts describe Jane as having worked in education or counseling rather than assign her one definitive job title.
Where did Brad Pitt grow up?
Brad was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, in 1963. The family later moved to Tulsa and then to Springfield, Missouri, where he grew up. He attended Kickapoo High School and the University of Missouri before leaving for Hollywood in 1986, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society.

When did Jane Pitt die?
ABC News reported on August 6, 2025, that Jane Pitt had died the previous day, August 5, at age 84. The report, which attributed the date to her obituary, said she was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and was survived by William and their children Brad, Doug and Julie.
ABC News also reported that Jane painted and shared annual one-on-one “special days” with family members. Her granddaughter Sydney Pitt’s tribute recalled Jane’s painting lessons and described her as kind and fair. Those details are family memories reported by ABC, rather than independently documented measures of her character.
