David Coverdale announced his retirement on November 13, 2025, saying that after a musical journey of “50 plus years,” it was time to call it a day. His statement was published on Whitesnake’s official website alongside the 2025 remix of “Fare Thee Well.” It announces Coverdale’s retirement; it does not separately say that Whitesnake has formally disbanded.
What Coverdale said about retiring
In his November 13, 2025 statement, Coverdale described a decision that had become clear to him over the preceding years. “The last few years it has become very evident to me that it’s time really for me to hang up my rock and roll platform shoes and my skin tight jeans. It’s time for me to call it a day.” He added: “It is time for me to enjoy my retirement and I hope you can appreciate that.”
Coverdale characterized his musical journey as “50 plus years.” That is his rounded description in the announcement, not an exact career-length calculation. He did not identify a particular diagnosis or newly disclosed medical issue as the reason for retiring. Read the announcement on Whitesnake’s official site.
When was Whitesnake’s last concert?
RTÉ reported on November 14, 2025, that Whitesnake’s last concert had taken place at Hellfest in June 2022. The concert therefore preceded Coverdale’s retirement announcement by more than three years. The announcement did not describe a new final show or a farewell tour. RTÉ’s report described his announcement as a video message shared through Whitesnake’s official social accounts.

Does Coverdale’s retirement mean Whitesnake has disbanded?
Not on the basis of this announcement. Coverdale said he was retiring, but the statement did not separately declare that Whitesnake was formally dissolved. The band’s status should not be presented as settled by wording the announcement does not contain.
What followed the announcement?
On December 11, 2025, Coverdale said he was withdrawing from social media so he could reflect on his career and life and enjoy retirement with friends and family. That later message described how he intended to spend his retirement; it did not add a formal announcement about Whitesnake’s future. Whitesnake’s official site also paired the retirement statement with “Fare Thee Well,” a 2025 remix from Forevermore: Revisited, Remixed and Remastered.
